KK 2.1.5 Problems

Hi all,

I am relatively new to multirotors and I recently put together my new Flitetest ecetrohub tricopter but have run into a few problems with my kk2.1.5 fc board. It is the hardcase version with the remote programmer, and so far I have been able to get it to go to the mainmenu, but that is as far as I have got. I tried using David Windestal's setup video on his tricopter page, but to no avail. Currently, though, all my kk board is doing is showing a blank screen when I give it power. I am clueless as to what to do to make it work, and also am trying to figure out how to arm it and get it out of safe mode? Here are my specs:

Afro 20 amp esc
Turnigy DST 1200 kv motors
KK 2.1.5 flight control board with hard case and remote programmer
Radio is a spectrum dx6i with an AR600C receiver

Any help okn getting this to work from plugging it in to final setup would be greatly appreciated! And no small detail will be underappreciated, I am the kind of guy that pays attention to detail!

Thanks much, Dave.

I haven't used the hardcase version yet, but a blank black screen sounds faulty.

Have you tried removing all the wires but one to power it? Perhaps there's a short or something?

Ok, I just tried that, the main display comes on, but as soon as I plug in a break out wire, the screen goes blank. It is still getting power, but lit up and not showing the main screen. I suppose a short is possible, but I am completely new to multirotors of any kind.

Hi

Blank screen on power on is a common issue with KK2 boards and a sign the LCD has failed.

As long as the backlight is on which is showing power is connected. Either send it back or if no longer under warranty you can replace the LCD they are dirt cheap from HobbyKing.

Paul, thank you very much for your help! I am not sure if it i under warranty still, but I will check it out and if nothing else order a new one.

William, I will try to get a picture of it up, but just been very busy with Chistmas time and all.

Merry Christmas guys!

So now my screen is back working again, but it is in "safe mode" when the main display comes on. I have viewed videos on how to set it up and they have all showed the screen saying "error" instead of "safe." Do you guys know anything about this or how to arm it so the motors will turn?

Its now waiting to be armed. If you have set it up correctly then just push the throttle stick to the bottom right position for a couple of seconds and it should say armed. If not then you need to check the stick position settings in the kk2 menu.

Ok, I just tried that but nothing happened. I then tried to find the stick position setting but only found the stick scaling setting page. Is this it? And if so what do I need to look for?

Go into receiver test (Working from dementia memory) so it might be slightly different

Then look at the display for each channel use Midpoint adjustment (Sub Trim) to ensure all mid points are zero and use end point adjustment to make sure fall movement of sticks give +100 and -100. Except Throttle which should IIRC be 0 to +90.

Then try to arm the board.

Hope this helps

Paul,

What you said worked perfectly! Thank you all very much for your help, and my apologies for being late with my reply. I'm still in highschool and needless to say it is very busy at times.

Now I am left with a new problem.... I accidentally dropped my tricopter and the kk2 took a direct hit. The sensor chip is now bad and I am afraid I need to buy a new one now. Before I do would anyone have any suggestions on a tougher flight controller? Or am I better off replacing the kk2 as I am a beginner?

That depends. The KK 2.1 is really user friendly in regards to setting it up. For all other controllers you need to do some fiddling and tuning on a PC. If you are willing to do that, the more "pro" controllers will give you better results, but you have to work for it :)

Ok, I think I will most likely stay with my kk2 and just buy a replacement board since my programmer still works. Thanks for the advice because I still don't know a whole lot about multirotors!
