Largest Motor Possible To Replace 2808

hello,

been flying larger rtf planes, just starting real builds, so my knowledge of parts is limited…

i am building planes roughly Alpha size, think f104, f106, F16 DWXL, i am currently running 4s 2200 mah, 2808 2750kv motor, 60amp esc, 5x4x3 prop. not my favorite.

i understand 28 is diameter 8 is stater, what i am struggling either is find motors that would be step ups from here. Logic tells mr 3008, but they are all very low KV.

looking for fast, with a whole lot of torque.

🙏

Look at something with a longer stator, 2812, 2816 etc. If you are looking for speed, keep the Kv highish, 2000+. Just make sure the new setup is not overloading the ESC & battery. A larger diameter 2 blade prop will be more efficient, if you have the space to swing it.

I was using a 3000 Kv for my speed setup. I got more speed using a lower Kv with a higher pitch prop. The plane was also much quieter.
Here is more discussion on Kv & prop size.

is there more to it than watts? i am running a high rpm 2808 that is producing just under 1100 watts…

the one above on 4s is just under 700 🤔

while i am sitting here thinking and you are on…i have also been thinking about running two motors.

been trying to search on here for post about how to setup with differential thrust but have t found one yet 😑

u know of a post by any chance?
I know how to do it...What transmitter model do you have?

BTW two motors doesn't really increase speed...It increases power, thrust ect. (it will increase you speed to a degree but it then maxes out, it also adds weight and decreases your flight time.) What would better is add a more powerful motor with less diameter to your prop with more pitch. Keep in mind when you are looking for speed more kv is good (To a degree)

man, i am so thankful you found my original question here 🙏

yeah that makes perfect sense on not increasing speed. i am running radiomaster cc2500

since my original post i switched to a 5x50x3 for 4s, plane SMOKES. was gonna upload a video for you…looks like i cant upload videos here…??? 🫤

found this, and several similar.

what i am uncertain of though is determining which prop i would need?

i have also even considered just going to 5s as well. so if i could get a prop on a 2812 like above that would fit within the air frame, and get one that is decently high KV…i imagine it would rip?

would this be stupid?

this on 4s, 6x50 🤤

check out the prop specs…

Yeah they have to be either a Gif file and down sized quite a bit, or start your own YouTube channel like me and @Mr Man did. I believe you can also upload them onto Google drive too although I never did it.

So that motor is only 1115kv vs the one I showed you is 1800kv, so if you are looking for higher speeed on a smaller air frame you are going to want a higher kv, which usually gives you the highest speed. higher kv is higher rpms but you can't spin as big a prop.
