what i am really wondering is if my planes are actually going WAY faster than i think 🤔 multiple people who seem to really know their stuff have said 2208’s will do 100+ 🤔

i mean…these things are RIPPING thru the sky.

i watched it but i only heard him say “it will do 120”.

I am either going to purchase a radar or figure out gps speed with my setup so i can have confirmed speeds.

i grew up around motorsports, land and water, bikes, cars, boats, i also played competitive sports…one thing I have found…speed is always exaggerated…

Oooh. Okay that's what he said in the video.... Buuuuut he tested that same motor on the bench with 6S and it was almost 1500watts!!!.....He was running 4s when it 120mph....

i think, think is the key word as i have not tested, but i think I am right around 800/1000 watts on my most powerful setup.

maybe my planes are going faster than I am thinking 🤔

Yes, I used the gps, nearly 100mph with the added drag of an entire bike gps strapped on the bottom. And I didn’t push it hard because the drag was making it fly funky.

Yeah, bike GPSes are HEAVY AND expensive. RID units are lighter and can tuck inside pretty easy. I used my Garmin a few times, but with FCs or RXes with GPS telemetry being much lighter and cheaper, I've been mostly using GPS telemetry.

What Receiver? It's more about the receiver/protocol with the newer radios.

These boards from Matek cost about $10 bucks and can be used with ELRS Receivers. (not CC2500 compatible protocol). Add a $12 GPS, and a $12 Serial receiver, and POOF! You have GPS telemetry.

Be advised, that these ELRS-PWM boards from Matek MUST be updated to the latest firmware or you risk hitting a bug that can cause a fly-away condition. Several of us spent MONTHS nailing down the problem and getting Matek to provide a patch.

Yep. The bug bit me, too. Busted the fuse, nose, and wing of one of my favorite e-gliders. Went through a ton of wasted head scratching before the update. I'm still a bit cautious when using any of the 3 converters I have, too.

Fortunately I found a thread on RCGROUPS about the bug before I put anything in the air on those boards. I duplicated the issue on the first Try. After that I worked with the thread to determine the root cause and get Matek to fix it.

I was not as fortunate. It was working fine for me right up to when I launched and then the fangs came out. LOL! Zero control half loop overhead and straight down nose first behind me.

In the end, it turned out, the higher the refresh rate, the quicker the problem happened. Matek was never able to duplicate it till I figured that out. Set it to 1000hz, and it would happen super fast. They still downplayed it, but at least they produced a patch that fixed it.

Here's the thread. Been quiet since last september, so seems nobody has had any more problems with the new firmware.

At least you weren't flying something that was realty fast.....could have gone quite far.

Funny thing is, I was looking for a solution to issues with the Battery/ current monitoring when running across the thread. Finally figured out that is a hardware issue that will not be fixed but at least isn't fatal.
