This weekend I had a bit of fun with a trio of sub-250 planes: an old Bentom Schweizer rubber power foamie converted to micro electric, my FT Mini Scout, and a significantly modified Sig 29er FF balsa kit that had set on a workshop shelf for 20-25 years before I decided to tackle the project last year. I got a couple of short flights with the Mini Scout, but the tiny Feigao brushless was overheating badly, so I swapped it out for a Park 250 outrunner when I got home. The Schweizer flew great as always, with a 5g outrunner and 1S 500mAh lipo. It was the first flight of the 29er after completing it the evening before, and also my first airplane completed with an Esaki tissue covering. The 29er flew nicely, slow and steady as I'd hoped, and I even got in some soaring in the warm morning air. The 29er is the middle plane in the attached image. The LG on the Mini Scout was rather funky as I built it, so I removed it and shortened the legs quite a bit when I got home.
I just started another balsa build, a scratch-built 88% scale Q-Tee. It is actually a bit smaller than the Willy Nillies Q-Tee 250, to be powered by a well tested Feigao 12x22 brushless in a GWS LPS-B2C gearbox. Don't know why the other Feigao overheated, but this combo was in a Stevens Aero Diddlerod for 20 years before that plane finally disintegrated. I've also ordered a Willy Nillies S-Tee 250, along with their neat little fake Cox TD .020 electric motor mount.
