Looking for flight controller advice

I've making up my try-copter parts list and am stuck on which flight controller to buy since the KK2 is perpetually on backorder. I'd appreciate feedback on the controllers I'm listing and any others that I may not.

Hobbyking i86 Multi-Rotor Control Board

Basically, I'm looking for something that is as idiot proof as possible. Ease of programming is a must.

Thank you!

In terms of ease of use, the i86 board is slightly easier to setup and get going as everything is done via the dip switches and 3 pots. The HK KK board requires programming but it's very easy to do. Just connect it to an USBasp programmer, open up the flash tool, choose your firmware, and then hit flash. As far as I know, there hasn't been any custom firmware released for the i86 board yet, where as with the KK board, there's all kinds of different firmware you can choose from (For me personally, this is a plus).

The i86 has the better gyro and processor but the over all performance is really about the same, they're still both single gyro boards.

If this is going to be your first tricopter, or any multirotor for that matter, either one of those boards would be a good choice. I started on the HK KK board but after about 3 months of use, I found myself wanting more features and put together a Multiwii board. There was a small learning curve figuring out how to program it and set it up, but wow, the difference between the two was night and day. With ease of programming being a must, Multwii might not be what you're looking for but I can tell you, it's worth the extra effort. :D

i also started with KK and Eagle N6 (same as i86) and I agree with IBeHoey, its a cheep card to begin with and work just fine (i have loads of hours with it and it flies excellent) however if you are new to flying its much more easy to fly with a bit more expensive card as...

It have one of these and have tried it with different firmware and it is really easy to fly...

A small movie to show its stability...

Good luck with your buy

Ditto on the Crius AIOP board SirToby mentioned, I'm currently using the same board and it's awesome. A little bit more money, requires a little bit of programming but it's totally worth it.
