How did you fix the line thickness issue? and find where to add tick marks?
For the line thickness under the fill and stroke pull out go to stroke style then you can change the line thickness. For the tick marks I make sure that the orientation of the skins is at a 90% angle then I use the arrows from the middle to align the marks!

Also when putting skins on the plans make sure the orientation is correct with the grain of the foam otherwise you will get wrinkles

Hmmm.. there was an issue for me where the lines I drew in Inkscape stayed the same thickness whether you were zoomed in or out, but the ones from the imported svg's weren't.
