I'm in a bit of a pickle....

I can't figure out how to do the spar at an angle accurately. If anyone is knowledgeable with Fusion 360, please help me.

Not sure if you are aiming for dihedral or angle of incidence. For dihedral you might want to sketch the spar on the front plane or you can make construction plane at angle around x axis to make the spar tilted. This guy has made some good tutorials for modeling an entire airliner https://www.youtube.com/c/RCCAD2VR/featured

I think that I've come up with a solution.

I'll make a sketch from the top down and extrude up so it's at the angle of the spar, and make a sketch on the side of that for the actual spar.

Thanks for your help!

the teachers have invented a new "study strategy" where they want us to study for an hour, and have a break for 30 minutes over and over again. This means I'll get to keep working on the build...

...In 30 minute segments.

That's OK though, I can still get a lot done.

Here's my progress:

I was able to make the wing spars thanks to Flitedesign 3d's help, and here they are:

If you can't tell, the spars are swept back. I hope that's Ok! :geek:

I had to do it like this for the removable wing design. There will be two carbon fiber or aluminum tubes that allow the wings connect.

I've been looking for a place to put this, and I'll probably put it in the balsa builders and breakers thread, but this website is very informative if any of you want to try balsa. I discovered it when I first discovered RC flying, before I knew about FliteTest or foamies. It's called Airfield Models, and I think the owner died, but When I decide to do a balsa build, it'll come in really handy!

Anyway, here it is: https://www.airfieldmodels.com/site_map.htm

Arrgh! I had to redesign the wing to make it actually work. It ended up well though because I like this design for the spars and things much better.

When I build this, I'm not going to put a removable wing on mine so If you want a removable wing, please say so! Otherwise I'm going to leave it off. It's just a lot of hard work, and more importantly, it would make it less structurally sound with my bad design skill. Keep in mind that this plane is going to be a meter and a half long (about the size of the FT P-47).

I'll probably end up making 2 versions of the plans, one with a scale cockpit (which I'm going to build and release plans for first) and one with a removable wing, which I might not be able to actually make, so It won't be tested outside of a cad model.)

The new removable wing design will have the wings removed from the fuselage entirely, not just removable wingtips. Also for the removable wings, some of the support structure for the floats will have to be attached to the wings and not the fuselage. Not exactly scale, but it gets the job done, and at a couple of meters away, nobody will notice.

It's not like they know the He 115 inside and out anyway, much less the floats mounting point. :sneaky:
