It's been well over a year since I've set up an Aura and had to relearn a lot. I've updated the Aura 5 firmware, bootloader, and the Aura Config Tool. I used the set up wizard to set up my Wedell Williams 44 and the control surfaces move as expected in all the modes including 6 axis mode. I hooked it back up, read from the Aura and without changing anything hit "Write All to Aura" and get this message:

The 6Axis Calculations button in the setup tab is grayed out....
Am I missing something simple?

I'll plug one in and check. I have the latest on all my boards....

This probably has to do with the defaults for the FT profile no longer having 6-axis enabled. Go to the control modes tab, Control Type and enable Fixed Wing - 6 Axis Level Assist. Make sure you do a "Write to Aura" afterwards too.

Edit, I had my radio connected and Live Data "ON". When I moved the flight mode switch, The Control Modes, and Flight modes on their repective channels changed to reflect the mode I had selected with the switch.

Thanks for the help. Went back to the shop, plugged the aura back in and read from it to the Config Tool. Checked that my control mode B was as you showed it, tried to write and got the same error. Went to the Setup tab and the 6Axis Calculations Enabled button was no longer grayed out. Toggled it on and it wrote just fine! Go figure. Maybe I was holding my tongue in the wrong cheek the first time.

Yeah, these boards do have a mind of their own sometimes. I can't pin down what causes the "control modes" and "flight modes" tabs to get out of sync like that, or I would send in a bug report. Doing an upgrade could be part of it. I usually blow everything away and start from scratch when changing releases to help minimize the weirdness.

Frequent WRITEALL and full power off resets seem to help, as does restarting the configurator.

So when I do the firmware update, I both power off the board, and restart the configurator. After restarting the configuratir, I read from aura and redo my config. I don't always trust backing up and restoring the settings either. Plus it keeps me on my toes remembering how to set them up.

After not messing with it for so long and needing to relearn I think I'm going to do a "Aura Setup for Dummies" thread. I'll DM you with it before I post it to get your expert input!

Go back into the Aura Config Tool and update both the tool and the firmware again, if you can. I believe the issue is caused by a mismatch with the config tool and Aura firmware.

And after it nupdates, go look for another update and do it again if you can. It may only update incrementally.

BorisTheSpider,
Thanks for this last little tidbit on this issue. I went through the same frustrating process of trying to get the 6-axis control ungrayed. None of the above worked until I saw this and upgraded my Aura firmware. That was months ago. I just went through this frustrating process with my brother and his Aura and struggled again because I forgot how I had eventually got the 6-axis switch ungrayed. Then, once again I saw your post and the problem was solved.
Thanks again.
