Still haven't gotten off of my floatplane kick. I've been working on this one off and on for the last little bit and thought I should get a thread started. I'm hoping to have it done and skinned in time for Flite Fest.

A little history first. The Sopwith Baby is the Military variant of the Sopwith Tabloid/Schneider, which won the Schneider trophy in 1914 with an airspeed of 86.83 mph. The baby was primarily fabric covered wood and generally mounted a single machine gun fired through the propeller arc. Scary what they had to do in the early days of the war. Firing through your propeller arc without synchronization took a lot of guts.

Additional armament included light bombs and Le Prieur rockets for use against zeppelins and observation balloons.

Anyway, here's what my plans look like at the moment. They still need work. The only thing I've assembled so far is an upper wing.

A lot of the Sopwith babies had the Lewis fitted on top of the top wing so it fired over the prop so synchronisation wasn't a problem. It really depends on a combination of which factory they came from and which branch of the service ordered them.

Yup, came across a few pictures of those. The more reading you do, the more you see how crazy the early years of the war were. There was a whole lot of, hey, lets slap this gun on here in this way and see what happens.
