Mini FT Spitfire

I just finished shrinking the ft spitfire to 65%. The build went very good with some minor changes.
Here are some pics[/ATTACH] 1456719826194992206098.jpg 1456720069234-2134148428.jpg 1456720934931-516120749.jpg

The wing span is 25", The auw is 7.0 oz, and dry weight is 5.3 oz. You can see the size difference between the normal sized one and the mini.
To save weight I didn't do a folded wing just a simple undercamber. The plane is only elevator, rudder, and throttle. Do you think this will be enough to fly this? I added the dihedral just like the big spitfire. For electronics I used a 1806 2300kv, a 10 amp DYS ESC, a 6x3 prop, a 500mah 3s,and 7.5 gram servos. This was the smallest servo I had at the time. I might post a video of the maid in if it will just stop raining here in Oregon.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks, I did a taxi test to see if thrust angle was going to be a problem. I did not see any problems so I hope its all good!

It houses a mini power pod. I might try to maiden it tomorrow and I will be sure to post a vid. If it does fly I might do a quick build thread too. Thanks everyone for the nice comments! I hope it flies!

I test flew the mini spitfire and the elevator rudder setup didn't work very good so I went to ailerons controlled by one servo. It now flies very good all most like the big one. Unfortunately my camera died before I went out to test fly but I will have a video of the new aileron version soon. This plan handles loops, roles, and Inverted just fine. The stalls are genteel but a bit harder to correct than the big spit because you can't correct with rudder. The AUG went down to 6.8 Oz instead of 7.0 oz.

Sorry about the video but I will try to get one up this evening.

Great minds think alike - here's my mini spit - i did the same as you, a 3 channel (I had a lot of dihedral and a big rudder surface) - but it was too fast for the small space i was trying to fly in (see the "show us your maidens thread for a vid). Im working on a aileron version too.. IMG_4565.JPG IMG_4567.jpg IMG_4568.jpg IMG_4569.jpg

That is awesome SheppO ! I like you landing gear a lot better than mine. Ya I had very little control with just rudder and elevator that's why I moved to ailerons. It was very easy to do. I'm working on v2 as my final version with internal elevator servo and small top hatch for access. This mini spit is very durable, I had some hard crashed with the prototype and not even a wrinkle. David did a awesome job on the spit.
I was also wondering If anyone thought a rudder pushrod tied in with the aileron servo would work so it would always be coordinated? I might try that on my next version.

Thanks.
