I just started building the first prototype of the Mirage 2000. Original model made by Captain Jay, redesigned and drawn by me. This plane is designed for 61-64 mm edf. Due to my heavy foam board the approximated weight of this prototype is 750-800 grams (4s 1550 mAh and 64mm 11 blade). Im using this construction silicone glue for places where a lot of glue has to be applyed at once which my cheap glue gun isn't capable of. I'm going to build this one with elevons only but there is a place for a rudder servo. I'm using 2 sg90 9g servos.

Thanks for posting this cool build. @Captain Jay will be interested.

Wow,look at the progress!!! Great work so far!!! If you think mine was fast on 3s. Your 4 s version is going to really haul ass... can't wait to see it all put together. The wing is looking awesome!!

It is now mostly done, but the back part and the rudder has not been glued yet since my edf has not arrived yet. Latest estimated weight is 740 grams with 60 amp esc, a little more if I have to use 80. Im using only one sheet rudder even its 2 sheets on the plans, my foam board has really strong and quite heavy cardboard on both sides so one sheet is more than strong enough. The nose needs a bit more developement since its kinda impractical. The first piece of the canopy does need a little bit of fitting, I did not that good of a job on it, there are some gabs but its a prototype after all.

It looks great. I can tell that foam board is stiffer, harder and maybe has a very strong and smooth paper on it. Different for sure... your prototype is really close to finished. I can see a few gaps but it's getting there for sure. My original had big gaps down the sides of the wing and body too. Which is why I have a big wide bead of glue there. Your finished product will be tight I'm sure... I think a lot of people will have fun building it... good job!!

Thank you! The joint between the fuselage and to wing really depends on how good of a job you do on the bevel edges on both the wing and fuselage. It can definitily be done better than I did, I pretty much just glued the whole plane together today not paying as much attention on details. For the exact bevels there are the green reference lines in the drawings.

Ya, I'm not much of a perfectionist. As a scratch builder, it either comes together or I cut and redue, repeat until I get what I'm looking for. Then hope to hell it flys. Hahaha

So I flew the mirage several times now and played with the cg quite a bit. I got the best result with about 7" back from the leading edge on root. With that cg it was still nose diving with neutral elevon (flies straight if trimmed correctly but it feels like the wrong way to fix the issue, because up elevons means more drag). The fact that mine did weight 800 grams did definitely not help the flying characteristics and I'm sure that this mirage made of ft foam will fly a lot better. Just for curiosity I wanted to see if it still nose dives if I put the cg really far back, it was about 9" back and it still dived but it was really unstable and basically uncontrollable at least with no gyros and I crashed it bad. So the nose diving issue was not fixable by changing the cg, at least on my heavy plane. I'm going to fix the plans now and release them and maybe someone with ft fb can try it

Oooh noooo, haha. Ya that C of G is a bugger eh? Lol sorry to laugh but I could just see you fighting it through the air... I had the same thing. 7" back did work for me as well with trim to get level flight. Someone out here will build this Mirage 2000 and have a some insight for us... I'm hoping..

I really like Captain Jay's but, I also like the way this one goes together. Are there plans for this version?
