Motor died immediately on takeoff

every person on here except for myself is telling him he did not drop throttle. he said “throttle was off”. you may not realize it…you and the others saying the same, that he kept throttle up, you are calling him a liar, or saying he is unaware of his own actions and what he witnessed. you may not intend to demoralize disrespect but that is what it feels like on the other side.
No, no-one is calling him a liar, we just can't think of any other reason why it would suddenly start smoking on the ground if there was no power going to it... Let's just move on from that. Right now I would recommend just buying a new motor and trying again!

Nobody is calling him a liar. If you re-read my first post, what I said was…

“It’s very hard to remember exactly what happened right when you crash because of the adrenaline.”

There’s a difference between calling someone a liar and telling them that they made a simple mistake.

Sorry to say, but it’s almost certain that your son didn’t fully cut the throttle when it hit the ground. It’s very hard to remember exactly what happened right when you crash because of the adrenaline.

What you described though is exactly what happens if a motor is stuck and power is applied. If the motor is stuck, it draws high amps which makes a lot of heat and burns the insulation off the windings. It can happen in seconds. I’ve done it myself. You might have heard a little whine first, then seen some light smoke from the motor, and if you touched the motor it was probably hot. Afterwards it either won’t turn at all, or it just jitters.

Lesson learned, just buy a new motor. Sorry, but it will go better next time!
Unless they for got to remove the tape from the fire wall for the center shaft to move smoothly.....

For sure.

Your posts are creating unnecessary and at times seemingly intentional friction on the forum.
I'm asking you to cool your jets (see what I did there?!) and be more respectful, please.

You have said your piece multiple times on the forum on the matter of FT branded equipment and FT Support.
I advise you to again contact them and discuss the issues.
Continuing to argue these issues with forum members is not helping.
You have said your piece. Official FT has heard your piece.

Many of the forum members have been involved in RC and its related tech for more than 20 years. Some of us for more than 50 years. When we read a post about someone experiencing failed equipment such as you, it is extraordinary to us. To our knowledge/experience, we have never heard of anyone having these types of issues with the same frequency as yourself. Knowing the number of fails you have had in the past tends to steer an experienced RC flyer toward believing you are inexperienced and could be the cause of many of the issues you're having. It's not that they don't believe you. The issues you share here are 10-fold, maybe even 100-fold more than most RC flyers here have even heard of before.
So, when you shared your experiences on the forum, many times, other members who have never had even remotely the same sheer number of issues find it difficult to believe. Not false, but difficult to believe. And continuing to berate FT doesn't help your message to be more believable when they do not have the same experience.

The motors of these models are impregnated with varnish. Q4 can swim and fly. The boat has a lifeguard, it tows the overturned models on the water to the shore.

I just got a new motor today and I plugged it into my esc the second I plugged a battery in the motor did the same thing it did last time where it started smoking. The motor didn't even spin. I think it is probably an esc issue. anyone have any thoughts other than it being an esc issue?

i have had a flite test radial 2205 and 2206 be fried within 15/20 seconds of launch. brand new out of box.

if you read any thing on here i am working on currently, i am going thru motors like pez, however this wasnt always the case. currently i am intentionally aiming for highest top end as possible on some frames so i am going to lose motors till i find what i am looking for (yes i am frying a bunch right now)….everyone on here will tell you i destroy everything and i am the problem…i had an F pack 2205 burn up 15 seconds after launch, and a flerken pack 2206 burn up in about 20 seconds after launch, both on 3s 850 mah, both on FT prop which came in bag. neither even made it to altitude. i tossed them, they immediately felt like bricks, i fought and fought and then the just glided down. both times i thought i accidentally put a dead battery in my case, only to smell the burning as i got closer to the plane. in the last weekish i purchased a 2808 and an 80 amp esc both from two different vendors not FT. the 2808 was DOA, i sat down this evening, started building, esc was dead, neither with any use other than initial testing. motor was tested along with servos, then the next time i plugged into it was dead (the next day when i went back to work on the plane i was building), never even had a prop on it, esc only ever plugged into a battery and motor for initial testing once.

everyone on here will strongly disagree with me…this is 100% completely normal. finding good electronic products in this game is tough, and commonly require buying the more top end products.

personally, i do not think its “rc planes”. i have worked in a couple fields, and have hobbies i am pretty serious about in a couple of fields, something i started noticing within the last 5 years is solder joints, circuit boards, and copper wire coming out of china, depending on factory, is getting extremely poor.

its a real bummer and extremely frustrating 😔 sorry to hear it happened

dont let this make you quit! get up and try again 🤙🏻

What brand is your esc?

Hmmm. I have never heard of that happening with a esc...could some of you mounting screws be pocking up into the motor windings?

My son purchased a FT tutor plane with:
1) 20A ESC (He thinks the brand was Flite Test)
2) Basix B motor
3) FT pocket transmitter
4) R88 Receiver
Sorry I had that wrong, its a 30A ESC. But we took it off the mount and tried it unmounted and it still did the same thing. He plugged it in and it started smoking right away. The entire motor gets very hot.
