Solved Motor not powering up - unknown esc sound

Hi Flight Test Forum

I am setting up an esc and motor up for the first time - but the motor will not start up when the esc is powered up - makes a series of beeps that weren't documented in its manual.

I have followed troubleshooting advice:
-Make sure the throttle and throttle trim is set to zero
- Switch the transmitter on first
- The transmitter and receiver is properly linked - tested with a server

The beeps played are as follows:
High(slight pause) high-low-high-low-high-low-lower. (I see sound/video can't be uploaded, so here's my typing attempt).

I got the esc, battery and motor as unused spares from work so it may be that there are issues in any one of these.

Any help would be thoroughly appreciated!

You have the ESC plugged into the Batt socket. That socket is 'dead' as far as sending any signals to anything.
The ESC must be plugged into the Throttle channel which ever that is (likely channel 1). Don't worry all the positive and negative pins are connected together inside the receiver so the ESC will still provide the necessary 5V to power the receiver.
The beeps you are hearing are the ESC saying "I have no signal".

Hi Quorneng
Thanks for the help! I wasn't aware that the positive and negative pins were all connected - makes sense.

Unfortunately, I've tried with all the other channels now, and it makes the same beeping.

Flysky uses Ch3 as throttle channel. (and then where the 3pin connector from ESC should be.
and rem, ember lightest color wire away from edge of reciver (correct as on the picture)

If beeps what ever, you can try change a few of connectors to the motor.

By the way, Have you binded the reciver to TX?
esc possible also need calibration for motor function. Throttle full speed when battery get connected, then fully down to minimum after a few beeps.

I assume the binding process is done correctly, so...

Did you calibrate the throttle? If so do it again. If not, put the throttle at max, plug the battery in, let it beep. when it stops beeping, pull the throttle all the way down. It should beep twice again, then maybe another beep series to let you know its done. then try to give it some throttle.

Hi all

Thanks for all of the help - wouldn't have managed without it!

After trying channel 3 it was still complaining that it didn't have a signal - so wiggle pushed the signal wire and suddenly it gave the 3 beep signal. And the throttle worked!

I just need to change the old connector.
