Help! My first DJI O4 compatible airplane

Hello all,

My apologies if this has been posted before, I did search for it but couldn't find a thread about the DJI system

I am looking to get my first FPV fixed-wing airplane and I'd like to get some advice to make the right choice, I already have experience with flying quads and have been interested in airplanes for a long time and I'm finally looking to get started with fixed-wing.

At the moment I am using a Taranis Q X7 with an ELRS module and a DJI O4 Pro system, both of which I would like to re-use for my airplane as well. I also have a 3d printer so I am able to make a mount if needed.

Preferences:
- Landing gear, since im new and switching from LOS to FPV seems disorienting
- Flight controller for OSD and telemetry
- GPS (or space for it)

Planes I'm currently looking at:
1. HeeWing T1 Ranger -
Currently my favorite but I'll need to add a FC myself since their optional (non-VTOL) one isn't compatible with DJI
2. ATOMRC Dolphin/Penguin - Both come with FC and GPS but no landing gear

Aditional notes:
I am aware that none of these airplanes come with an ELRS received included and I am fine with connecting my own. I am also located in the Netherlands so unfortunately ordering from FT gets fairly expensive with shipping

Thank you for your advice!

Pick whatever plane you want first.

If you need your own FC, I would recommend picking up either the SpeedyBee F405 wing or Diatone Mamba MK4 F722 MINI WING flight controller. I recommend these because they have the DJI port built in. You will want to pick up a serial ELRS receiver like the RP1, RP3, RP4TD, etc..... and a basic serial GPS. No need for gps with compass.

For the easiest setup i would install INAV on the flight controller.

I use Walksnail, not DJI, but the configuration is mostly the same. I use INAV and ArduPilot on my planes.

Cheers!

Thank you very much!

Not sure how I missed that in the post but I was indeed planning on getting the SpeedyBee F405 FC. Thanks for the receiver recommendations too!

I will in that case also use INAV to set things up

The nice thing about the SpeedyBee F405 is if you want to switch to ArduPilot later, it is fully capable. I stay away from the F411 and F722 because they have less memory and can't run ArduPilot. Even INAV is starting to drop support for those processors because the firmware is getting so big.
