More accomplished today, since the Weather is so CRAPPY!!! 😠😠😭

It actually feels less waxy and slippery! πŸ‘πŸ‘

One little trick I can take a little credit for...

IMG_20190810_141128.jpg

For me anyway, it keeps this piece from "caving in" when I glue it to the bottom of the Fuse...

NEXT - the teeny weeny hole in the middle of the Spar, and Wing, for the Servo Wires! πŸ˜–

I reinforce the Spars with Popsicle Sticks, to deal with the enlarged hole...

On to the Tail!!

Some pseudo "expert" told me last night that I just ruined the Spar, by widening the hole...

I STILL have experience beyond flying FT Aircraft.
I'll get pictures when I can get back there and finish the Spar....

First, it will end up STRONGER than the stock Foam Spar.
Second, on this particular Aircraft, the Wing is captured, outside of this particular Mod, by the Fuse walls AND Doublers.

(DANG!!! Forgot about the Doublers. I made the hole too wide!! πŸ˜ πŸ˜–)
It's OKπŸ‘Œ I'll cut the Wing hole the correct size, and all will be fine!

If you get to know me.... Strength and Redundancy are hallmarks of my Building Style.
~ I just won't go as overboard on weight adding structure as I did on my Cub.

Which SHOULD be FLYING this Morning!!! πŸ˜–πŸ˜πŸ˜ πŸ˜
..... 97% Humidity, ground SOPPING, my Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis are SO horribly affected that I can't get out of BED.

Oh, and I almost forgot - it's mine and Cindi's 7th Anniversary! Thank GOD I didn't forget THAT!! 😁
Can't afford even Burger King, but I'll think of something.

Do not worry about the hole in the spar. You will break a lot of other stuff before you worry about that wing.

DO WORRY about not forgetting your anniversary. A few things are more important then planes.

Have fun and good luck

NEXT....
The way some of these are built on Video, doesn't compute with me!
Anyone who REMOTELY knows me, knows that I can't afford much....
But SOME THINGS don't need to be economized!!
Like Coffee Stirrers!

IMG_20190812_164823.jpg

That wicked bend bothers me. Looks like it would put undue stress on the Servos...

.063" is actually WIMPY! πŸ˜‹
IMG_20190812_171004.jpg

I had a Servo BREAK OFF just plugging in the Batry!!!
Same fix, foam wedged between the Servos. πŸ˜‰

UNLIKE the Videos also....
I'm NOT gluing the front half of the Bottom Plate in, until AFTER I install the Main Wing!
Hmmmm....... Maybe I should BUILD the Wings!! 😜

Looking good!!

Might I suggest using a little less paint to help save a bit of weight?
I agree 150%!! 😲 I got a bit carried away paint on the INSIDE. Did me no good.

I can barely defend my insanity by saying that the Acrylic, once cured, loses over 80% of its weight (water)....
Enamels and Lacquers, being Oil based, nearly RETAINS 70-80% of its weight!! πŸ˜–

I'm still not trying to say that Painting the inside of the Fuse was a GOOD idea...
As a matter of fact, it doesn't stick to the Maker Foam! It just flakes off.

However, my original intention of just painting the exposed Foam with it, works brilliantly! A perfect barrier. So when it's ready to Paint for real, all the White Edges won't get EATEN!

Thank you, sincerely!

Adding the foam blocking to mechanically keep the servos in place is a good idea - I do that on all my foam builds now after having servos tear loose too.

Great Minds... Or just a Common Sense idea? 😜
I used the 10g Servos you gave me inside the Fuse, HOPING that Futaba quality means not having to cut them out so quickly....

Hardly a weight gain!
Even all that extra Foam supporting the Stirrers! Used Gorilla Glue, sparingly to attach it all.
..... I may second guess the Rx location. Maybe stick another piece of Foam ACROSS the Fuse, under the Wing. That way, plugging and unplugging the ESC will be a bit easier, if the plugs are pointing Down, towards the vent hole.

More busy work (waiting to fly the Cub!!) πŸ˜‹

Why NOT try to make them look a bit better? May even do Spark Plug Wires!

IMG_20190813_004837.jpg

Which is not negotiable!! 😜
IMG_20190813_005349.jpg

Tried my best to get the Hinge CENTERED.

IMG_20190813_005731.jpg

Not sure why - just FIXED it!

I DID already check THIS! πŸ˜‰

Piece of Mind.... Didn't add a measurable amount of weight!

Progress looking good! Don't forget to check that the wing actually fits in the fuselage slot before getting to far along too - I find that usually my wing shape doesn't match the slot for whatever reason and I need to do a little carving of the slot to get it in there.

Oh yeah, and don't put in the aileron servos until the wing is installed. Don't ask me how I figured that one out :p

"Oh yeah, and don't put in the aileron servos until the wing is installed. Don't ask me how I figured that one out :p"

Check and CHECK βœ”
Being a "Lone Wolf" (not by CHOICE), I've learned several things that way.

I'll make sure to check the Wing fitment. If Tubby Cubby flies half as good as I HOPE...
I didn't do that DOUBLE thick C Fold on the underside of the Wing. I didn't like the LOOK of that enormous Step under the Wing, PLUS I didn't want the induced turbulence under the Wing.

I KNOW... I'm applying too much 1:1 thought and Work. πŸ˜²πŸ˜‹
I'm hoping that at least You have figured out that to me, these are much more than just "build, fly, crash, repeat disposable Foamies" like 95% of the others treat them...

Neither way of thinking is WRONG. Although so many don't get what I'm trying to do...
It's just a different approach, fueled by a STAGGERING LACK of Money. You know what though, I'm really enjoying it!! πŸ‘πŸ‘

Tubby Cubby FLIES within a half hour!!! 😲

I'm concentrating on this right now.

DON'T ask me how I know THAT!!?? πŸ˜–

As a tip to help prevent ground looping (like that other plane did to you) go with a live axle setup - lock the wheels to the axle and let the axle turn both wheels at the same time. Really helps keep things pointed the way you want them to go! :D
