Solved Need help getting parts for a slope glider.

Hey everyone,

I've always dreamed of having a kit and building DTFB planes, but I’ve hit a wall. I recently got a Radiomaster Pocket with a CC2500 module, and now I’m having a really hard time finding clear instructions on what exactly to buy. I tried looking for kits so I wouldn’t run into problems, but I still can’t figure out a good combination of battery, receiver (with or without a BEC), matching voltages, and cable compatibility. I thought it would be easier to sort this out, but I can’t seem to find a kit that works well for simple builds.

I also got an R84 4-channel receiver that didn’t work when I tested it with my power supply, so I’m sending it back—but that experience made me realize I wasn’t sure what battery or other components I actually needed.

Could you guys help me out a bit, please?

you can buy anything you want to build and fly. you're only limited by the number of tx channels.

the specs for the battery, motor, prop and etc. come with the plane you build.

I have to import everything at a high conversion rate, so it makes me afraid a wrong choice will make set me back. I wanted to get the parts needed to make simple 2 channel slope gliders like the weasel etc. So no motors or props. All build videos I see talk a lot about the plane itself not so much about the specs of parts :c

So you will basically need 4 servos, BEC and and a battery...All we need to know is the size (Wingspan) of the plane you are thinking of (y)

BTW here are some plans to a couple DTFB gliders

All I want is to build one of this guys for starters.
I alredy have the radio (rm pocketcc2500), 4 servos, foam board, glue and tape.
If I get another R84 reciever could I power it with 4aa batteries for testing in the plane? Is it possible or normal to get a battery pack that could stay in the 5v range so I wouldn't need a bec?

I saw in your profile that you like to build the versa wing. I really like that design, and it was one of the examples I couldn't get around because the videos about the electronics are based on the one with a motor. There is no description of what it had in the one video they are slope gliding with it.

The power input range for the R84 receiver is 4.5-8.4V. So any battery that can supply that voltage would work. A pack of 4 or 5 AA batteries should be in that range. A two cell LiPo (7.4v) would also work and be lighter.

Thanks for the explanation my friend. Just to check, as long as I keep around that voltage I can go directly from battery to rx right?

Sadly, there’s only a 1S battery available, lol. This also makes me wonder: would it be possible to use a 3.7 V 1S (flat or round) battery with a BEC to boost it to 5 V? That would save a lot of weight. Is that doable?
The BEC only tunes higher voltage down to a usable amount like 5v...It doesn't boost it.

I want to thank all you for the help, thaks to you my first project is done.
