Need more than 6 channels - suggestions please

Greetings all,

My son and I build foam board planes and only until recently have 6 channels been enough. We are working on a project where we want to add bomb bay doors and a bomb drop mechanism. We are using a Spektrum DX6 and have used up all the channels for the usual (throttle, ailerons, rudder, landing gear, etc).

Going 8 channels on the Spektrum side isn't cheap and while doing research we found RadioMaster as an option (also seen people using it on YouTube videos).

We started looking at the RadioMaster Pocket since it can have 8 channels (up to 16 I believe) but I don't see enough switches to accommodate flaps, gear, bomb bay door and bomb drop. There are other RadioMaster transmitters, but we're trying to find a balance between cost and functionality.

Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

There are four switches on the Pocket, and one dial so you can have 9 channels mapped directly to controls, and more with mixes.

One of those is a momentary, so really just a button....

The question is, what do you want to use for a receiver? The Pocket will not natively bind to Spektrum receivers. It would need a 4-in-1 external module for Spektrum, which would cost more than the pocket.

Ah, ok, got it.

We would buy a ER8 to go along with the pocket. We figure total investment would be around the same as an 8 channel Spektrum receiver.

Thanks!
