Hi all! I'm getting back into the hobby after a long hiatus. Since I paused my foamboard scratchbuilding in 2013, I got married, moved, and had kids.
Now my kids are getting old enough to start participating so I'm getting back into things. I've followed FliteTest since the first episode, the Wildcat review (still one my favorite episodes), and the last plane I made was an FT Explorer, so I'm acquainted with FT. It also fills my heart with joy to see you guys use flight to reach those hurting and spread the gospel.
Currently I'm trying one of your foam kits for the first time to get a feel for what it's like to build using your methods and materials. The model I'm building is the FT Mini Sportster because I'm a 30's air racing fanatic, especially for Granville Brothers planes. After I build the kit to specs, I'm going to make one from dollar tree foam with some modifications to better match the signature GeeBee look. IMHO the stock FT Mini Sportster has a Curtiss-style empennage, and the nose profile is more crop duster than 30's racer, so I'm going to tackle those.
After I get back up to speed with RC flying and scratchbuilding, I'm going to experiment with the idea of adding a foam plane making class to my church's summer arts camp. It's just a rough idea in my head at this point and I have work to do to figure out how it'd all work.
Oh! I almost forgot, I design my own aviation themed merch. I'm not here to promote myself, but since I'm in the midst of folks who might like my stuff, you can go to aeronautdesign.co to check out my stuff! I have a line of warbirds and jets stickers, and a series of 30's air racing prints and shirts. Plus I designed a periodic table of warbirds that I think turned out nice. I'm no salesman, it's just something I do because I love planes and have an artsy side, so if you check it out I appreciate it, it helps keep my RC planes flyin!
Talk later, and thanks!
