New receiver- can I activate SAFE before optimizing AS3X gains?

I’ve put together the S800 Sky Shadow kit with Spektrum AR637T receiver.

I’ve never hand-tossed a flying wing, so i’m not exactly thrilled with the idea of a maiden without SAFE.
All instructions for receiver setup suggest fine tuning the AS3X gains before doing the SAFE setup. Is it necessary to do in that order?

p.s., I would rather not ask someone else to pilot the AS3X setup, so I know that is one answer, but it’s not the answer i’m hoping to hear ;)

I would say yes. Is this a factory kit with the receiver? Just always test SAFE to make sure the controls move in the correct direction

Double, no Triple check that all controls work in the correct direction, both from the sticks, and that the control surfaces react in the correct direction when you move the aircraft (opposite of motion to counter the motion) If anything is not correct, it will drive it right into a nasty spill.

Could be as you want some altitude before checking safe feature , be ready to turn it off if things go south errrrr towards the ground..
