Hello all,

Ive stumbled into RC flying , My dad used to take me when he went and thats a life time ago. Anyhow im an ex RAF who joined the Royal navy to fly , and ended up flying ships instead for 4 years as we cut the fixed wing fleet. ( long story )

my love of old Royal navy aircraft has survived and ive 2 lovely models i want to start flying , and I've decided upon windbox so i can fly Hotas setup with FPV as this seemed more natural to me than flying from the ground only .

Ive received my Windbox from a chap in spain , but i cant get much info on how to sync the RX to the unit , and im also concerned that the box itself may not be reading the HOTas input ?

DOes anyone have exsperience with the windbox TX /RX please and can point me in correct direction , I saw Pierre from belgiums videos , but not sure if hes still an active member ?

many thanks

Hi, Ive been RC flying a while and I am trying to achieve a similar setup to yours. I ordered a windbox, unfortunately it came with the Chinese firmware and navigating the setup in Chinese is beyond my ability. There is (or was) a firmware updater that could flash the hardware to english, but the site referenced in the manual (opuav.com) has been defunct for years. Do you, or perhaps the chap in spain know how to get the firmare? If I could read the bloody menus I would be more than happy to help you set it up!

THANKS but Ive seen Pierrefrombelguim's posts and his youtube channel, tried reaching out, but no response yet. I did find a more in depth manual though. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/windbox-brain.html if you go to the support tab at the bottom there is a 40 page manual that clearly defines every option. I might be able to rosetta stone it enough to get a setup working from that. I will update here if I get anything working.

HEllo All, appologies ive been away , Good news is yes ive got the wind box working and i have a manual in English i can supply. see attached

I had big issues setting up , most i found out was the Hotas i was trying to use ( despite being listed - was not a compatible unit ) so purchased an X54 from a charity shop ( £45 ) and after that , i could see the inputs were answering / The Rx unit (1 of the 6 it came supplied with ) was faulty , so when i tried another , Voila !! all worked.

SO this is my swordfish , and the sea vixen is on back burner , until i can calculate and find a motor suitable for her. the sword fish ive flown once , non fpv , ---- accidentally as i was just practicing fast taxi , and making sure setup was good. ive since changed DR and things and got teh handling quite close to real aircraft rates of roll etc , do most people do this ? ive a cheap gimble coming to setup and when afford will fit a DJI air 03 unit to it. ( mates got the dji goggles v2 hes going to lend so i know im happy to invest further if i enjoy . I do love the hotas , as flying is more organic to me , especially throttle position. But im seriouly impressed with the Joystick buttons all working on the wind box so that all the trim can be adjusted on the fly etc via Hats or similar.

That's a beauty, well done!

What a spectacular model but remember that any wind you fly in is not scale and turbulence is likely to be "plane sized" rather then just a local disturbance so you may find that the control settings for a model need to rather more aggressive than the full size used.
