Hey y’all so my boys are wanting to get into rc airplane flying. I used to fly years ago and I’m glad they are getting into it. My question is how should we or what is the best ways to finish the airplane as far as a color scheme? Do we use paint, tape or what? Thanks y’all! Our kits should be arriving soon and just want everything here.

When a plane gets some distance in the air, the colors tend to disappear. All you can make out is lighter & darker. I like to have a light color and a dark color on both the top & bottom. Sometimes it the light color that pops against a dark sky. Sometimes it's the dark color that pops against a bright sky. Either way your cover.

I prefer to make the top different from the bottom. I'll make a stripe one way on top & a different direction on the bottom.

Packing tape and paint both work equally well. You could paint the base color and use tape as a accent color. I covered my planes 100% with colored packing tape. It's a personal choice, what's is easier for you.

Which ever way you choose remember light flies better, the first few planes I would not get carried away as usually they do not last long. Tape is light quick and easy keep it simple the first few Merv has the right idea, colored packing tape is what Merv is talking about.Good Luck.

Bricks is correct, I should have been more specific. I do use colored packing tape. I have not been able to get it locally.
I use Carton Sealing Tape from Tape Planet or Wing Tape from Hobby King. They both work equally well, get the one that is most economical for you. DO NOT use duck tape, it's far too heavy.

If anyone has another source, please let me know.

I recommend flying a short maiden before finishing, although, a little tape top and bottom is quick and easy, and help to identify orientation
