I cut the wing tips off at the end of the ailerons to get more speed but haven't been able to try it out yet.

I like that equation, trim it right down to a controlled lawn dartLess wing area= faster plane
Nice flying Marty! It looks like you were having fun.I flew the P40 today, in NC, a new field (found just today). The planned site was closed down indefinitely because of the ..... wait for it..........CV 19. It's hard to believe they close down a county soccer/frisbee field for this, but these are the times we live in. Last night I attached the landing gear anticipating that I would be flying at the soccer field, which has fine, well maintained grass. Well, I had to fly this new site which is a lot less refined. I've pulled off the gear (using an iron) and won't be reattaching until I can find a better runway. Here' s today's clip, nothing exciting but it has a cool clock tower in the background.
How was the orientation today? No crash so I am guessing it was goodI flew the P40 today, in NC, a new field (found just today). Yeah, it was fine, I just can't take my eyes off of it. With the Sportster, I can be a lot more careless regarding orientation. I was also flying closer. I may get more flying in tomorrowHow was the orientation today? No crash so I am guessing it was good
Is the P-40 a C pack radial with 3s and a 9x6 right now?A big day of flying the P40 today. I ran 6 batteries through it and am learning to watch the plane so I don't lose orientation. It really flies smooth at full throttle. I'm beginning to like the new flying site, it isn't landing gear compatible but I've found a better way to fly the site. If you walk all the way to the end of the lot, it ends as a cliff. It's a cool place to fly as it has a lot of the traits I look for, permission of the field manager, far from people, roads, and pretty much hidden. Since I'm not sharing this field with dogs, soccer players, ect, I can go anytime the conditions are good. This may turn out to be an upgrade in some ways.
I'm planning to fly the Sportster and try a 4s in the P40 tomorrow. Assuming conditions are good, fog has been a problem the last few mornings. I'm also enjoying the P40 now. I'm curious to see how it behaves with more speed, I expect it will fly better.
C pack, 10x5 prop w/ 3s.Is the P-40 a C pack radial with 3s and a 9x6 right now?
The 4s should make it rip, if you have done 4s in the Sportster you will like it in the P-40, more streamline. I am jealous of your new site. I would have to pack a lunch lol.C pack, 10x5 prop w/ 3s.
I'm running a C pack radial edition with 3s and 10x45 prop and have had tons of power. (I'm almost scared to put 4 cell on it, to much power)C pack, 10x5 prop w/ 3s.
That’s a great flying spot!My new flying field. More later. It's a really cool site, not sure you can really tell that I'm on a cliff. I'm pretty excited about it. View attachment 162406
What direction would you go if you were to build another? Something faster then the P-40, biplane, try a prop n slot or a wing? And the P 40 is now my favorite plane! Funny how that happens, wasn't all the keen on it at first but as my skills develop, I enjoy it more and more. 6 batteries today, 2 in the S Sportster. (1 4s in the P40). So the 4s with 10x5 prop and C pack had a lot more thrust but the increase in speed was not as much as expect (simply need more pitch). I think a Rimfire 35, 10x7 prop and a 3s would be a rocket (and it's probably what I'm going to do). (Sure, I could try a 9x6.) I enjoy flying the P40 with the C pack, it's fine but I'm pretty much wide open all the time. It flies great like that, very smooth, fast and awesome to watch. The P40 flies best with speed! Now with that all said, the P40 is pretty darn fast with the C pack wide open. I just wish I had a bit of reserve for vertical climbs (which is thrust, really). The 4s will do that, but for blazing speed, I need more pitch.
As far as orientation issues, only happened once today. My issue, I believe, is I'm self taught and I may have gotten lazy flying the brightly color, big wide winged Sportster. I would take my eyes of the plane or simply just not paying that much attention to it. The P40 is my orientation trainer. I'm learning to focus on the plane and to carefully watch it with each input. This alone seems to have solved the problem. Never lose orientation, never have to regain it.
BTW, the WWII plane flying near that old clock tower looks so cool. I'll have to get someone to film it, zoom in, and shoot the plane near the tower.
