Thats great man i cant wait.. what gauge aluminum are you using on this wing so i can get it cut out tonight or tomorrow so im all ready to build

1/16" x 1/2"

I'll post the the length and cut marks when I get the plans done, but if you wanna buy it now you should be able to find a 3 foot piece for just a few bucks at Lowes/Home Depot.

Sorry for the delay guys, I got a little tied up with some other things and haven't made any progress on the nnMIG yet. I am working on the plans right now, though. Once I finish those I'll get started on the fuse.

Also, the DTFB box was actually an accident. The first time I went to my local DT and bought foam the dude was like 'if you're gonna buy 15 sheets you should have a box to protect them.' I hesitated at first, thinking to myself that I'd never need an entire box of DTFB. Funny looking back at myself 7 months ago.. I was so naive :p

I am lucky enough to live in an area with 4 DT within 15 minutes of my house so I make monthly trips and clean them out. Yeah.. I'm the jerk who buys 20 sheets at a time, haha. It's okay, though, they restock by the next week so I don't feel too bad :)

The MIG 3 is definitely a bit more challenging to design with the slim wing (just look at how many lines there are!). I am opting to try a new design method with this one, no fuse bottom plate under the wing. The wing will be its own bottom plate. With the bottom airfoil it should curve right in line with the fuse angle and look flush and scale. If this ends up working out how I hope, it will be the new way I design my wing/fuses going forward.

Ive been thinking about trying that let us know how it works out. Ha i might even alter my rarebear build and lower the wing so i can fit the pod... now are these plans up ready to build or just a beta build?

Thats great man i like that idea...

I don't think I'm going to be able to pass this one up. There's just too much awesome.

I hope the wing attachment works out. That joining line is going to have to be to match the top wing shape precisely to get the right AoA. That was why I redesigned the H1 fuse. But I believe in you. :) Making a removable wing would be a little different with this plane because of the position of the lower scoop, too.

I'm excited to see how this one turns out. The MiG-3 is such a cool looking plane. I'm sure the nnMiG-3 will be, too.

Johnrambozo you can still do a removable wing i did it with my old p51 like a year ago just glue your scoop inplace then do a cut line down the scoop at the aft wing. Just beef up the inner scoop with some extra foam after you remove the wing to keep it strong

The plans will be build ready, I'm not doing a beta for this one.

Yeah it's gonna require a really precise cut. I just hope its a strong enough joint.

As long as there is some kind of internal support near where the wing attaches it will be fine. My planes are removable wings, which are effectively the same thing.

Thanks for the idea, I'm gonna add some cross plates across the cut out for more surface area.

Quick update. I got everything built except the poster board. The good news is that I don't think the wing will have any strength issues but the bad news is this thing didn't go together nearly as smoothly as I hoped. It's not even that I had to make too many plan adjustments, it's just a tricky build because of the wing and how it joins to the fuse. I am hoping to get everything finished for this weekend so I can maiden.

Thats great to hear the progress. I figured you might end up running into problems with the joining of the wing and keeping it strong. Hope everything works out for the maiden this weekend. cant wait to see this bird.
