Non-Hobby Usese for R/C Stuff

I was wondering if you guys every put your hobby skills / equipment to use in your non-flight world?

I for one have started using my FT Viggen as a leaf blower. Try it! hold it by the nose and pick a throttle setting and keep the outlet duct close to the ground. It works great!

Anyway, I'm sure you guys have done something like that? Or have used Flitetest Foam for other house projects.

I've used my tricopter with the FPV gear to go check and make sure the garage door was closed... does that count? I guess it is more laziness than usefulness tongue.gif

We used servos at work to debug touch screen lock-ups. The servo drove a plunger with a foam 'fingertip' on it. We adjusted the travel of the servo to hit the range of pressure where we were seeing the lock-up happen. The problem was in the software driver. Software is a lot more fixable when the problem can be reproduced reliably.

One of the other engineers at work incorporated a servo in a non-vehicle remote designed to launch birds for bird dog training.

I've actually taken to using my 250 quad as a leaf blower after I cut my grass. It's great practice and a lot more fun to sit on the porch and clear the sidewalks ;)

I also use the same quad to inspect my gutters. Since one side of my house is 2 stories up it's a heck of a lot safer to check to see if they need to be cleaned than climbing up there to find out they don't.
