Not R/C, but Fred said control-line stories would work, too.

Nice story, I assume you were lucky enough not to attract any lightnings with your control lines when flying overhead 
And by the way, control lines are still R/C (Remote Control) because you are still not sitting inside the plane yet controlling it from the distance. Remote Control does not have to be Radio Control, e.g. your TV remote most likely does use IR rather than anything else.
