NutBall Scratch Build

(Maybe if I bend a wire from edge to edge in front of the prop, hockey helmet style - it'd just bounce back...?)

It might work, but chances are the prop is going to hit the wire instead... But if you do try, remember to balance the plane again.

Maybe it'd get a nice bounce or at least the torque reduced. Wire is softer to hit than dirt! Nah, even a cf strip won't take any beating. Thinking two foam horns sticking out on each side of the prop. If nothing else the flight charateristics will be most amusing.

No mixing, but you may prefer plugging the rudder servo into the aileron channel to steer with only the right stick.

Thanks ... I have the rudder plugged in as aileron and it is MUCH easier to fly with just the right stick. This thing is great!!

Me and my kid have had a few good (and bad) times with our nutballs, but we're really chewing through props like crazy regardless of success. Most of the time the prop saver doesn't save the cheap GWS prop (RD-8043) we're using. This is a bit discouraging for the little guy when the rest of the nutball is extremely tough.

So I've been pondering how to add a real prop saver preventing the prop from hitting the ground at all. Does anyone have a good idea here? I can only come up with silly ones like long skewers sticking out from the wing and past the prop... I've gotten some stiffer, less cheap, props also, but haven't tried them yet.

I have the same problem with the GWS props. I've gone through 8 of them already. Now all I have left are counter clockwise props. I'm going to swap the wires on the motor and see how it flys with them. Now that I am used to flying it, these should last me a bit longer ... ;)

I'm not sure why, but this makes me laugh. Baron Manfred von Richthofen (the Red Baron) was abducted by aliens and this is the result.

I bought all the parts for it on HK and they are being shipped, but they did not have the red brick 25a esc so I got the plush 25a esc is that OK?(new to hobby/first plane was a firebirdcommander2 got it for Crismas)

It's a control horn and if you don't have a local hobby shop you can order them online from Amazon, ( I mean really, WHAT can you not order from Amazon?) or many other internet sources. But these are laser cut 1/16 inch ply control horns, don't know where they got them. I've been using Popsicle sticks myself. Drill a hole in the round side, guesstimate the angle needed to put the hole over the hinge-line with the stick in the meat of the foam then I dig out the foam down to the far side paper, fill it with hot glue and then put the stick in and smooth the overflowed glue. Works fine for me. But the purchased ones do look cooler.

Motor/ESC/Battery combination for 22 inch NutBall

All,

Just completed the airframe on a 22 inch version of the NutBall. I see Josh's recommendation on motor/esc/battery combo's, but was hoping to re-purpose some gear I already own if possible. Will any of these make a good flying NutBall?

Motors:

Tower Pro 2410-9T-4Y (840kv)
Tower Pro 2410-8T-4Y (890kv)

ESC:

Hobby King HK-HW30A: 30 Amp ESC
High Tech Mag 8: 18 Amp ESC

Battery:

Thunder Power 2100mAH 7.2v 20c
Esky 800mAH 11.1V 20C

Let me know what think about piecing something together from the stuff above, or whether I'd be better served with ordering up some new gear?

Thanks,

vortech

i used http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/s...er_1450kv.html, 8x4 prop, 2S 1300mAh battery, 30A plush speed control
help...i don't know if the issue is CG or the power plant...or trust angle probably...

it always crash...nose dive a lot.

Mine wont fly well with a flat elevator trim, I have to give it some up trim. Try that bit of constant back pressure or a smaller battery as well. I have only used an 800mAh on mine.

Finished mine today:

But I managed to order an 11" prop instead somehow so the first flight will have to wait :(
