Had a quick look at wikipedia and it seems the idea of a "flying (surf) board" predates 1985 and Back To The Future quite a bit.
I'd be terrified to even go near one of these things. Actually it seems to be safer to operate than to spectate...

It looks like he has some safety netting on it to stop him from falling into the blades, but I'd still want caged props on that thing if I ever flew it.

less efficient though. The smaller props won't make as much thrust per square inch and all the added motors/escs/batteries will make it much heavier than it would with those big motors. It would be cool to see like 20 250 quad motors lifting a person though.
