As long as you have a nose cone on the motor using electric is not violent. How old is your fuel and was it left open nitro methane sucks up moisture like a sponge.

I do not see where you posted the oil % that is in your current fuel all I have seen is the Nitro content.

I don't leave the bottle open for long, just enough to put fuel in the tank. It is probably around a year old, and has spent nearly all of it's life on a shelf with the cap closed. It has 9% oil in it.

Suggest you take it to the field and let someone explain, check setup of engine and tank and lines are correct and help you with starting your engine. As far as mixing the two fuels together and adding oil, if you don't get it right and your flying, you can ruin the brand new engine.

Did you research on how to set up and adjust the needle for the break-in of the engine and how long of time you should run it that way. One click of leaning too much(as the level of fuel in tank goes lower) means overheating, lack of fuel, will reduce the life of the engine.

You could use the 20% as is for the breakin, (we broke in 60 size heli engines on 30 % nitro) as long as you know how to set the needle.
Seek help at the field.

All i've seen is that I need to run the engine through at least 3 tanks of fuel. I will try asking the folks at the field.

Is that just the Castor oil content does it list a synthetic oil content? If not then you are correct for wanting to add oil the fuel you have what sounds like it`s blended for surface use ie cars and such which uses lower oil content. The reason surface can use lower oil content is that it is not at a high constant load like a plane has. You really want to be in that 17-20% area either Castor or Synthetic 2 stroke can be added to get it in the right range.. You can google for the formulas of how much extra oil to add.

It says I can use synthetic oil, but 20% caster oil is recommended. Thanks for all your help!

The only reason for keeping any caster oil is it handles higher temperatures in case the engine has a lean run, most all newer fuels use synthetic with a bit of caster for just in case. Synthetics run much cleaner and a lot less gunk on the plane.

So I don't need to add any oil unless it runs lean?

I actually did something else really cool today... likely a first in the USA and possibly beyond. I'll save that til later 😜

In the meantime, I'm working on getting the kids in our club into Flite Test style foamboard planes, starting with combat propjets. Full contact foamboard combat has been one of my favorite rc activities for about 15 years, I think they'll get a kick out of it plus it'll make em better pilots.

Sounds great! Wish there were some kids here that I could do that with 😂

We're fortunate to have a group of about 8 kids that are really into RC in my club. Even with all of the restrictions and other garbage these days I think it's really important to get them into real hobbies.

$3 airframe with sub $20 power systems is the way to go IMHO 😁
