While at Flite Fest back in July Chris from the After Hours Podcast tossed his 3DHS plane.
I immediately wanted one. What a great way to have fun specially in a small area (like your back yard).

Jason Uberig of http://uberfly.ca saw my post and sent me a copy of his Phat Hawk 3D EPP plane to build and review.

Last night I finally finished the plane and took it outside (in the dark) to have some fun.
Even with no expo or rates set and all the wires hanging loose the plane flew great.
Lifting out of my hands at under half power.

The kit as you can see is very simply, clean and comes with
all the bits to build the PH (I provided the motor, esc, prop, receiver and servos).
The instructions are super detailed.

Jason had suggested I use an air brush to paint the foam before assembly but
I opt'd for a foam brush and acrylic paint job due to the high humidity at the time.

The results are decent but I will go over the plane again
to clean up the colours as it did not really add any weight.

With all the parts removed it is time to cut the bevels into the wing surfaces.

Simple process thanks to the detailed instructions which provide step by step directions.
(I just didn't follow them that well.)

I used Foam Tak on this project and you don't need a lot to glue the control surfaces in.

Carbon rods and linkages.
Jason did caution me on cutting the carbon control rods and tubes. Carbon Fibre dust is nasty stuff.
Do it outside and wipe the surfaces down when you are done.

I used 3 HXT500 6.2g / 0.6kg / .08sec Micro Servo with some custom arms to maximize their throws.
(I'll get some detailed photos of them shortly.)

The 3D printed motor mount.

Jason provided the design and a local friend printed it out for me.
I ended up using the light weight design and drilling my own holes to mount the TURNIGY 2204-14T 19g Outrunner.

Nice build Andre. Is this one your first 3D plane (apart from the sukhoi)? It looks like a good first non stabilized 3D platform. They're good fun for indoor flying too.

During Flite Fest I'd ended up throwing up my 3DHS Slick right in front of the After Hours crew without knowing it, which was funny. landed turned around and Chris says nice flight.

Yeah you heard the podcast I would have flown all night with Chris' but we had to do the live podcast ;)

I wanted to buy one but the shipping on the twisted hobbies model was $60 USD.

Jason's plane has impressed me and I only flew it a few minutes last night in the dark.

Can't wait to dial it in.
