Pinewood Derby is my other hobby! I've found there is a lot of overlap with RC and many of the skill I learned have transferred over to Derby racing. For any folks out there whose kid just brought home the car kit and they're not sure where to start, here is a free eBook: turboderby.com/ebook

Depends on how you respond to challenge. I'm in the camp "If you aint there to win first place, you don't need to be there". Made my kids rather peeved at me. Hint: last one was a cop car with working lights that turned on after generally being passed on the track by a faster car. Helps a lot if you build the track and run the races. Really tough if your fellow dads are real rocket scientists at Edwards AFB.

Somewhere in my archive of footage, there are some Gopro flicks taken from onboard a chase car during "fun runs" at our Son's pack. Was from before I was on youtube, and if I ever find it, I'll have to post it up for old time's sake.

How in the world did you keep the weight legal with a Gopro onboard? The cop car "AA" batteries made me end up as basically a flat plate sled with every lightening trick I could scrounge. Would be easier today with lithium flat cells. Unless.... maybe it wasn't class legal.

Notice I said during "Fun Runs"! This was NOT a weight legal car by a long shot! LOL

I would lauch it first looking back, and after looking forward. This was on a four lane track. Still digging for footage.

I stupidly thought your people would allow it to race, but not be eligible to win anything because obviously a kid wouldn't be able to build it. Don't know squat about Gopro's

Aha.... accidentally found it when going through old hard drives from my laptop. (spinning rust!)

LUSTING after your metal track with tire grooves. Hmm about same vintage as my experiences, but we had the "official" approved BSA kit made from 1/4 marine plywood, glued and screwed, Warped when wet...
Ummm, hard drives are supposed to be spinning rust, or am I missing some obscure sarcasm? Getting tough to be old
