Plane waterproofing

Waterproof, no. Water resistance yes, clear coat will work just fine.

Many use a clear polyurethane, any brand will work, the same stuff used for woodwork. The oil based products work better than the water based products.

Myself, I cover my entire plane with packing tape, sometimes called carton sealing tape. Don’t use duct tape, it’s too heavy.

You have to be careful to not spray it on too heavy, if you do, the paper soaks up the spray and delaminates and or wrinkles. You can brush on a light coat of polyurethane, that will protect it from water as well. I do that before I spray paint them.
