+1 on the Supercub and your comparison with the E*. The E* is a decent beginner plane and has it's place. My opinion is the Supercub is not only a good first plane, it's a great plane, period. You can get RTF for around two hundred bucks or if you are committed to the hobby you can go bind and fly and get a DX6i or whatever DSM2 compatible radio floats your boat.
The new LP version is great as is but is also very easy to upgrade as your skill level increases if you should get bored with the stock setup
