Power combos for foamies

I am sold on the Flightest foamie kits, want to build one. This will be my first, so I'd like to keep it simple. Unfortunately, the motor/ESC combos are really really hard to find. Can't get them on Flightest, or anywhere else it seems. They are all sold out. You can buy the individual parts it seems. I priced it out using the list for the Mustang kit on Flightest. It is around $85 if you buy the parts, versus $50 for the combo. Being the cheapskate that I am, I'd like to get a combo. It seems the only cheap ones I can find that aren't sold out are on Greyson Hobby. They have some "disposable foamie combos". But the ESC's are 18 A versus the 30 A in the Mustang "Combo C" for the mustang. Does anyone have any suggestions for sources for a compatible combo. I could, I guess, build one of the smaller kits on Flightest and use the disposable foamy combo from Greyson. Any ideas...?

I think i saw that in another thread. I wasn't sure if it was true, or if it might be a couple of months rather than weeks...

Yeah, i tried that, but when you go to the checkout cart, it shows up as not in stock. But, you say you are using the 18A ESC? then I'm thinking again about the Greyson combo

HobbyKing ^_^ I just match the KV and prop then grab an ESC that has a few extra amps than the motor I selected wants. My electronics for the Mini Scout come in today in like 1-2 hours so I'll let you know how the cheap HK route goes as soon as I finish it all up. I am however using a T-Motor ESC I already had so all I'm getting is 3 batteries, a motor, and some props to complete the airframe. I pray the CG comes out right and if it doesn't then instead of adding a tail weight (I really really rammed the servos forward) I'll add an LED package for weight somewhere down the tail.

twelti,

I have used the disposable foamie combos from Grayson Hobbies on a few of my scratch built planes. They work great. These are the two that I have used.

I like the threaded shaft because the nut that holds the prop is the same size as the nut recess on the GWS propellers.

I'm not sure which FT Plane you are going to build. The Mustang or the like will probably require a larger motor (those listed above work fine on the 3 pack, a little heavy, but they work fine). You might want to go with one of the bigger combos for the Racer, Spitfire or Mustang. Something like the 400 / 480 combo (but I have no experience with those packs).

Power combos

Have you looked at "Heads Up RC"http://www.headsuphobby.com/main.sc
They provide very good service and good prices. The motors have a very good descriptions including what prop could be used and the thrust it would have and amps it would pull.
They also recommend an ESC for the motor.

I've been very satisfied over the years with them.

Good luck.
