Problems Communicating with Witespy aka Paul Baxter aka RTF Quads

Ok, did some research and hopefully this is correct. It appears that the Flip (and with it the receiver with it) can be powered from any of the motor pins. I used some of the following links to come to that conclusion, 1st link directions for Flip installation and second read the comments.

If you want to power everything from the UBEC pull the power wires from all of your ESC (you can also remove the ground and just use signal wires) then wire it up as I have in the picture and it should power your servo and the FC board and your receiver.

With the image with the y-splitter and the servo and ubec, are you suggesting that the y splitter just be plugged in to which ever port is designated for the servo? Will that power both the servo and the FC? And will I also have to take the positive and negative from one of the ESC's and plug them into the Rx?

As I posted above according to the my research the set up above should power your servo, FC and receiver. You should only power your FC, receiver combo from one source.

Hey bacpck.

So I tried setting up everything like you said. I tried uploading some pics but could not.

For the Flip 1.5 in a tri config, the servo port is the D3 port. I connected the y splitter to that port with the UBEC @5V and the Servo connected to that port. For ports D9, D10 and D11, I took out all of the (+) and (-) and left the signal.

When I powered it up the first time, I realized I forgot to change the FC firmware back to Tri. I previously had it on Quad. When I got everything set, I booted the beast up and the problem remained. The servo did not move when giving rudder input. When I had the FC hooked up to the Gui, it showed that the FC was receiving rudder signal from the Tx to Rx, but nothing in the servo.

One thing I observed though is that the servo had a faint clicking sound when the system was powered on. I thought I might have burnt it when the FC was on Quad mode. However, it performed its initial full range of motion that it is programmed to do when initially powered on.

Anyway, thanks for the help bacpck. I'm not sure if there is a solution. I have already started converting everything to a Quad. But if you do have any more suggestions, I will be open to try them. I am still waiting for some more motor mounts to arrive.
