Same, especially this particular plane that I got to see in person ( I was too young to really appreciate it)

The short version is an elevator trim tab failed during the race and resulted in an almost 20g pitch up followed by a crash into the grandstands at close to 500 mph. It was either 2012 or 2013 I don’t remember exactly

Yeah. Really sad day. Jimmy leeward, the pilot, was a close personal friend with hoot Gibson and apparently Hoot was assisting the ntsb with the investigation. Watched an interview with him about the plane that was really interesting.
