Quadcopter retrofit with new motors and simonk escs. weird problem, cant explain.

Did some more flying today after putting some foam between the frame and the camera mount. Seemed to help a bit but it was so darn windy. The throttle control already touchy with these motors but the wind seems to force the quad up or down more than left and right. I am almost wondering if smaller props might be better. Right now I am running 10.5 inchs on 1100kv motors.

Well what do you know... I found this in another thread under prop sizes and the DJI type frame. The video looks just like what mine looked like before tuning.

I get the feeling I should have gotten these http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/__19611__NTM_Prop_Drive_28_36_750KV_265W.html if I was going to throw bigger props. Or even better these... http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/...00W_Brushless_Motor_short_shaft_version_.html

I see another motor upgrade in my future.

I am flying an AnyCopter with a MultiWii and am dealing with the same issue. I was running 1450 kv Suppos with 8045s and got it to fly pretty well. I swapped out my Suppos for 1000kv Maytechs and 1045 CF reinforced rotors and the PIDs were WAYYYY off. I wobbled into the plants and it was just ugly.

I have had to reload default settings and, in between snow showers, am working on level flight without the toilet bowl wobble. I was able to tune it to the point I may make short flights with brief stops to let the sensors level. At this point, I need to rebalance motors and rotors to keep fine tuning.

Once I paint two rotors yellow, I will balance them and the new motors and the mount a GoPro. I am changing motors, rotor size and rigidity and adding 210 grams.

Every change will require some type of PID tuning to make it fly right. I figure I am practicing how to tune the MultiWii at this point.

I ordered an assortment of 8045s from hobbyking us tonight to try. Should be interesting. I have done some searching and found others with similar issues with high kv motors with big props. Seems I if this works I should consider trying the lower kv motors.
