Quadcopters? How hard can it be?

Looks good to me but I wouldn't use the Bardwell Phoenix. Not sure what goofyness was added into the bios if anything. I know what can be adjusted on the plain Phoenix 2 but you can test the waters I suppose. In most cases I find the pilot branded gear to be either the same as normal or a minor change to justify added cost for the name.

I dont see a VTX in that list either do you have one already?

That is an option.. My thoughts motor is kinda weak sauce for freestyle and racing. Pretty efficient for just cruising though. I had a runcam nano and wasn't impressed. It was just presets in it if I remember correctly which is why I jumped to the phoenix2 since they no longer make my favorite camera the Microswift mini 2. The recommended 850 mah battery will probably put it over the 250g all up as it does the OB1 buy about 10grams.

The choices are many as everyone and their brother slaps one together. Most dont actually research the components nor bother tweaking pids or camera settings for best performance. Its enough to make your head spin when you are new to it all. After many years flying I avoid cheap parts and ANYTHING promoted by "pro pilots" as they are paid to tell you its the best thing since sliced bread. Not saying its all bad as I do use some AFTER doing my own research and making sure others that have tried it and actually used it give good thoughts on it and not just a fanboi review because the pro pilot uses it.

Do your own research. Read reviews and sort what's real use and what's fanboi speak. After all its your money they are trying to get you to spend.

I don't have a VTX. I was trying to pick one, and decided to find something BNF. I don't mind it being a little weak for freestyle. That might be a good thing, since I'm still learning. I can get or build something more aggressive later on. I'll do some more research.

I appreciate all of your help on this.

All good mate. I try to pass on what I know to save people the cost of finding out the hard way and wasting money time and sanity. Just later down the road pass it forward with the knowledge you gain.

Well, I've been practicing a lot. At least an hour a day. The bad news, it's only been on the simulator. The good news, I'm improving with that.

Just flew the Mobula6 indoors. That's still difficult on acro, but I believe the videos of people ripping through their house are unrealistic. Lol. I'll take it to the park this weekend and even record some video to post. As long as the weather holds up anyway.

I ordered a Diatone Roma L3 along with a SMO 4K from RDC. I can't wait. I live near the Rio Grande, and hope to get some cool video, eventually. I also ordered another TX, so I'll get my son flying the Tiny Trainer more.

If your feeling to wobbly and like the controls are spastic you can go into betaflight and drop the rate down a few points then raise the super rate to get the degree per second rotation back up to where it was. This is how you add expo in a multirotor. NEVER actually use expo in the radio OR in betaflight. As that stacks with super rate basically expoing the expo effect of super rate. It makes center stick super light but the last few percent of stick travel can stack super high crazy rotations.

I think I might try programming that tomorrow. I do fine outside, but things happen fast inside.

Well, here's a few firsts. First time flying my new Diatone Roma L3. First YouTube upload. First time at this park too.

This is about as far as I can fly before my video starts to go out. I don't know if this is normal range or not. Anyway, not much to see, but it's a video.

You put it up. you flew under control and you landed intentionally. I'd call that a big successful maiden.

I agree. It's pretty intimidating sometimes, but I'll improve with practice.

Lots of practice.

Exactly. I went from flying a Walkera runner 250 on auto level to ripping my own builds at ~150 mph. Like anything else if you want it you have to put the time and effort into doing what ever that may be. You'll be amazed once tuning clicks in your head and you can understand and know what locked in feels and flys like how much better and faster you will progress.

I'm going to try to get more actual stick time. I fly really good on the simulator, but it all goes out the window when I get to the park.

Do you think I should be getting more range than this? 300ish yards?

What vtx, antennas and power setting do you use? @25mw - 50 mw thats about right. 200mw I'd question the antennas, 600mw or higher somethings seriously wrong.

Umm. I'll have to research. I honestly don't know.

You're correct. Power is set at 25, but I can't change it.

If this is that particular one then the vtx table is wrong as that has 4 power settings and can do 25mw 100mw 200mw and 400mw. I run 50 or 100mw depending on what vtx was available on my little builds as that is more then enough power to fly as far as I am willing to walk to find the darn thing as small as they are :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

You should be able ONCE YOU CONFIRM this is in fact the same vtx edit the VTX table to have 4 power settings and add in the 3 missing ones.
If you are not comfortable doing that you can go to the wiki page link in betaflight to get the correct vtx table and just copy that and paste it in CLI by following the instructions posted.

Turns out the VTX is locked. 🤬the information I'm finding to unlock isn't working.

PsyBorg

Wake up! Time to fly!
Oh, I see what you are saying. I manually entered them. Is it really that easy?? View attachment 209989

Yes as long as the vtx is capable of doing it. that is why I said YOU MUST CONFIRM the exact vtx. You cant make a thing do something it wasn't designed to and you will brick it or release the magic smoke that makes them and probably other parts work.

I see the numbers I saw on the web page are different from what you entered... You got the correct settings or did you make those numbers up to see if it can be done?

It came with a card that showed the numbers. I entered them, put it on R8 at 100mw, and it works fine.

I read that they were capable before doing it. Mine just didn't unlock the same, so I figured I'd try.

Just keep an eye on heat specially when sitting idle.
