Welcome aboard. Like teach said, the AMA website has great tools for finding local affiliated clubs, fields and event news. I would also hit up your local hobby shops and see where they fly, make some contacts and you might even get on an emailing list of upcoming events. Most active shops will have posters up of events happening in their areas.
