Recording FPV flight on the ground

What's the easiest way to record FPV flight from the ground? I know on the ground station episode Chad was using a full size DVD recorder to record the flight. David W. was using a Sandisk V-mate for a while.

What's an easy way to record with something on the small side that can be taken to the field easily that's not a camcorder that will connect to the basic HobbyKing FPV system?

Otherwise look for 1 channel DVR. If you have a laptop with you, you can use a Composite Video to USB adapter.

I've been looking at the EasyCap. I may try that hooked up to my little netbook but I've read the recording software is really bad. But for $7 it may be worth a try. I'm not sure how I would hook it up to the basic FPV system since it only has one video output and that needs to go to my monitor.

It has AV in and out and records to CF which is nice since I have some large capacity CF cards from old digital cameras. But it's more than I want to spend.

Composite video/audio cables are simple to split Ground to ground and Signal to signal Otherwise you could just get a splitter:

I purchased a faulty MiniDV camera from ebay (the lcd doesn't work) and I use it to capture the Video from the Video Receiver. Watch this video and jump to the 1:20sec mark. Cost me $5.00

Yeah that is the other option. Any video recorder with "VIDEO IN" connectors is fine.

Keep us posted on that VuPoint. I just read some reviews that it doesn't work with Macs or Windows 7. I hope they are just dumb, cause it seems to be a good piece of equipment, especially for 20 bucks.

Why shouldn't it? It just records video? You'd just need a codec to convert them... ??

I have no idea. from what the video said it just converts it to MP4 which as far as i know works with both.

I just rewatched the HSN video above and if you go to 3:51 you can see that it is windows 7. so that person that wrote that review on QVC is just stupid.

Yeah, only the memory stick plugs into a PC, the VuPoint is only used for the video input and the video is recorded as an MP4 so no worries about compatibility. My order says it will be delivered on the 22nd.
