Throws relate to how much deflection you get on your control surfaces. Did your transmitter come with a manual? it should explain all the functions that it can do. You mention you have a DSM2 controller, however DSM2 is not a particular controller, from what I know, Spektrum uses DSM2 tech, but so does something like the Orange T6 from Hobbyking. I'm sure there is a brand and a model number printed somewhere on your controller. also if you find the particular model you have, i'm sure a quick google search for your model plus "tutorial" would come up with something useful.
