Reversing props on a tricopter with KK2

Hello all!

My first post on Flitetest forums! I just got into flying multirotors and decided to start with a tricopter. (And I'm starting to realize that starting with a tricopter may not have been the best of ideas..)

I've managed to scour the web and various RC forums to be able to get my tricopter flying relatively OK.

At this point, I have one question for which I cannot find an answer so I was hoping somebody on this forum can help me out.

When I first ordered parts, without much foresight, I ordered both clockwise and counter-clockwise props in equal amounts. I managed to crash my tricopter and end up breaking a lot of props in the process. Seeings how I have two CW motors and one CCW motor, I have a lot of CCW props left with no more CW props left.

Question: Is there a way to change the KK2 motor layout or settings that would allow me to reverse the rotation direction of one of the motors?

For my first post, I'll start with this one question... toss out more questions later :)

Thanks all!

From what I have been able to gather, you can run all 3 props with the same rotation. The yaw mechanism will compensate if it is set up correctly, but it will seem to sag on one side. I haven't tried myself yet, but I am close to being in the same boat. Only one spare CW prop left, and 4 CCW props. Someone needs to sell tricopter sets.

I'm thinking a quad would have been easier for me to start with too, but I guess I like to do things the hard way. I am learning a lot with this tri. Hopefully when I go to what I want to do next (V-Tail Quad), I will have a lot more experience and it will go easier.

Good luck with your Tri!

EDIT: I forgot to add, I don't think the KK2 really cares which direction it is rotating on a tri.

That's right, it doesn't matter a whole lot if you're just learning, and not flying around fast pitching and banking and yawing radically, you'll be fine.

What ?, Could you point me to the source that says this ?

Here's what KK says......

This can be swapped in the mixer page.

For channels 1-3, reverse the sign for the yaw and you should be good -- it'll slow or speed the correct motors to give the extra left/right kick.

You might need to adjust the trim value on the servo, since it has to counter an natural CCW motion from the props, instead of a CW motion.

BTW, Welcome to the forum!

Thank you guys! I knew I came to the right place

I did think about changing the mixer values to negative, but I thought it might not be enough given KK2's natural motor directions. I will try this out once I break my last CW props.. Thanks!

What ? Wait ? Are there other configurations with the KK board that we don't have to follow ?

Nope not really, only for Tri's as the other multicopters have to rely on torque to control yaw instead of the tail mechanism just adjusting to deal with it. I don't recommend it though, it makes the tri fly a bit lopsided and not nearly as nice as having the correct rotation. It does work though!

The mixer menu is setup to a fair default when you pick your motor layout.

If you *wanted* to do something weird, like a tri with only one prop type, you can go in there, remove the yaw from all the motors and it'll fly a bit better. it's also where you go to reverse the servo direction, switch from V-tail to A-tail, setup a three servo tri, or pretty much any oddball "I've got my motors laid out differently" menu.

Otherwise, it's completely done for you if you've got a standard setup.

I'm a bit confused with what was explained.

I have all CCW props and want to run them on a tricopter.
What do I have to change in the KK2 to make it run normal?
