Scratch build scale B-25, new to fuel powered planes.

Good afternoon all!

I am looking at getting into gas powered aviation, and as a sign of my newness to the topic, are there any engines that sound close to the radials?

Ultimately I have a bird I would like to make (variant of the B-25J), and want to replicate it as best as I can. Im just starting to look into everything, but I want to make it as close as possible to the real deal as I can.

Secondly, it appears as though most fuel tanks are in the fuselage, are there any that are in the wings? or how would that work? I have a few other questions or what if type questions, but I think this is a good place to start.

Thanks for any help you may be able to give!

Any four stroke (either glo or gas) would be the most realistic sound. The fuel tanks will be located behind each engine. In a single engine this would be in the fuse, for multi engine, the tanks will be in the nacelles behind each engine/behind each firewall. Each engine will have it's own fuel tank.

What size plane will this be?

Okay, good to know. At the moment, I am unsure what size it would be, maybe 1/8th or 1/16? I would like to make it as close to the real deal as possible. Basically I would like to recreate the following aircraft.

I dont think this would be a quick project, but I would be going for detail and accuracy. Just an Idea Ive had recently.

Thanks again!

Good call, looked them up, and while they are a tad out of my range in terms of finance, Ill see if I can get the dimensions and work on building everything else in the mean time!

Thanks for the help all!

Amazing! Might take me a few years to get there, but Ill probably finish and learn on a variety of other aircraft before I move to the big 1/4 scale. To me, the idea of making cowl flaps, and all the other intricate details of such a plane is just as fun as actually flying it!

Now, about the money..... Lol

Where is a good place to start with a gas powered plane? The B-25 is something I definitely want to do eventually, but would like to get as much experience as I can before risking easily 20k worth of parts.

Thanks again!

Are already a proficient flyer? What have you been flying? What's the most advanced plane you've flown that you can repeatedly take off, fly, land, and not crash?

I am most proficient with a small RC helicopter, multiple landings and take offs with out crashing. I also have a powered glider that I can fly pretty well, wingspan is roughly 1.25 meters. I am in the process of learning to fly a quad-copter as well. Other then that, I have lots of flight simulator experience, but that doesn't count towards much with a RC plane.

Sounds like you should start with a trainer. Don't start with anything too expensive b/c it will get crashed. The most commonly recommended first plane I've seen is the Super Cub LP, but I like to recommend the GWS Slow Stick. There's plenty of four channel options as well if your powered glider is four channel and you're comfortable flying four channel. The ParkZone T-28 (not the micro T-28) would be a great four channel for training purposes.

Okay, good to know, most of what Ive done to now has been on my own, trial and error type things (haven't found other local fliers yet). The aircraft I do have is similar to the Bixler, its around 8 years old, and Ive been flying on and off in that time. Ill definitely look into one of the other trainers. My quad kinda drained funds but we shall see I guess!

With that, I still hope to build, not fly, the B-25, and Ill work on purchasing components as funds become available. if it takes 10 years, then that it will! I think Ive got an idea of what I would need, but still have a lot to learn!

Thanks all!

Hi, I am planning to build a b-25 myself. I found a set of plans for a Royal B-25 (they no longer make the kits) on ebay from the seller mrhobby. I think they were 17 dollars. I plan to build mostly from foam using the plans for outline and shape. I already have two magnum 52 4 stroke engines. It is a very big project. He sells plans for a lot of different airplanes. Good luck with your B-25. Benny
