Hey everyone,
So I really like how my Sentry R3 design turned out and decided that I want a platform for FPV and hopefully to eventually carry the APM 2.5 and camera for small area mapping.
In any case, I put together what I call the Sentry Heavy.
The prototype specs are as follows:
-Twin boom design with the Sentry R3 wing design (KFm3 airfoil this time)
-1m wingspan + a .13m fuselage. So 1.3m wingspan?
-Dollar Tree Foamboard and 1/2" pink insulation foam
-Emax 2822-1200kv
-APC 8x3.8 prop
-30A ESC
-2 x 3s-1300mAh batteries in parallel
-3 9g servos (Ailerons, elevator)
-AUW ~ 608g
This is just the prototype so I didn't bother sinking in the servos or any further finishing. Just complete enough to fly.
So my initial impressions:
-Hooray it flies!
-Seems to have a decent amount of power and lift with this setup
-Pitch and yaw seem stable, roll is a little shaky
-CG seems about right but could be improved
-glide is ok
-control surfaces seem to be the right size
Questions:
-Can I improve roll stability by adding angled wingtips? Will they add a bit of dihedral?
-Suggestions to improve efficiency so that I get longer flight times? Currently runs about 15 min at 1/2 throttle with batteries drained to 11.2V. Different prop or motor.
Next Steps:
-test fly again with simulated load of fpv gear and digital camera. (extra 250 grams-ish)
