i would do the servos the way that is the lightest
I don't think weight will change, it will probably be a simplicity/necessity of construction thing more than anything. It would look better to mount them inside, but we will see. I have the fuse going together as the wing dries and I will work it out from there. Unfortunately, I won't be able to center my servos until my adaptors to link them to my RX get in here from hobby king. I may have to swing by hobby lobby and buy some .032 servo wire to, as my .039 is a little large.

I decided I didn't want to wait and i used 5g servos. So i finished it today.

This is how i did the servos.

Might want to look at the plans for the tail feathers. cut a slot for the rudder in the h stab. There is also a full foam width between the rudder and the fuselage.

AUW with a 2S 300mah battery is 4.5 oz (it kept bouncing between 4.4 and 4.6). That is 127g for you metric folks. Using my 1.7g servos and using less hot glue (i was about 50/50) it could be lighter. I delaminated the paper from one side of the fuse and wings.

Here it is in comparison to my FT P40.

Overall this is a nice looking little plane! I plan to maiden this and my P40 if weather permits tomorrow.

yes i definiately will sort out the tail feathers.... if you wanted you could cut a sliver of foam to slide in there to close up the gap, and give it a cleaner look:unsure:

please try and get a recording of the maiden;)
I will, and that is what I did. I cut a nice long skinny piece of foam out and glued it right under there. It has a nice "spine" running up the back.

You could just add that to the plans.

I've had a few Kadets over the years but never a foam version. Since I have been wanting a cabin plane to make into a night flyer, seems like this would be a good fit. I'm in!

here are 3x A1 sheets and an a4 page..
you can print the A1's as poster to tile them

Here's my submission. Thanks for sharing your design, Matthew. It was fun to build a plane in one day! I plan on giving this to a buddy's kid who can finish it with the appropriate ESC, motor, and battery.

I had originally printed everything up on 11x17 sheets at full size. Unfortunately, the fuselage is too long at 100% for a piece of DTFB. I wound up building at 75%, but I'll bet 80-85% might even fit on a normal sized sheet.

I took SSgt's advice and cut the vertical stabilizer with a little extra foam and notched the horizontal stabilizer. Fits much better and closes that gap.

Anyway, it seems like a rock solid trainer for someone learning the ropes. Folks could add gear, floats, lights, or other kinds of shenanigans to this plane. Somebody needs to finish one and see how it flies.

approxiametly how much longer was it than a sheet of foam?
