slow flight

You could just build an indoor style epp plane. They go around jogging pace at a normal cruise and cost about $30, or if you vary the alpha it can slow right down until its not moving and just in a prop hang :p

build a plane to go as slow as possible for under $100

I like this idea, but it would need some rules...
no prop hanging,
no ridiculous alpha angles.
no rubber band poweredness...

Just a plane built to go as slow as possible. I know the rubber band slow fliers as pretty good at it, but what could you get out of an electric?

oh, and no using pager vibrator motors, we're talking brushless here!

They could all use the same battery, esc, motor and receiver, so the slow fly will be based on their design only

I would like to see challenges that we could easily recreate ourselves, and then post the results on here. So something like, the slowest plane with a certain power package. You have to have a certain motor, speed control, battery, etc... You can then build the body of the plane however you want. Video it flying between two points. And then you post the video on here.

How about a low cost indoor setup.

Radio equipment cant be fixed as all we have different gear.

But if you are really into slow then you have to go small in electronics.

T
he distance has to be flown both ways to compensate for wind.
Or indoor is probably the only way if you dont want to fly backwards ;-)

That's a nice power system :)

What prop can it use?
How much weight can it pull?
I would suggest 8*4 or 8*6 with 2 cells but for slowest flying there could probably be something better.
For really low speeds you will probably need to get a gear box and a really big prop.
This is not the best indoor motor but certainly one of the best value for money.
If you have a limit on 100 USD as suggested in the first post - i suppose it counts everything except the TX, the dollars could be spent in low wight RX, servos and materials.
Slow flying is supposedly very low wing loading.
