Smartphone Apps for RC

Was wondering what apps you you use to help you in your RC endeavors? I have seen a few battery management tools (or logs) that look like they could be useful. I always like to get input from real users before trying them before installing.

I would think a flight log could be useful-to record weather, time and key events of the day. I have not looked for one to see if they exist yet, so if you are aware of one, please let us know.

Any other useful Apps you use to help you in this hobby?

Thanks in advance!

RC Speedo

I got to enjoy this one last weekend:

RC Speedo: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.neon.rcspeedo&hl=en

Mate had it on his <cough> iPhone <cough> but the good news is that its on Android also!

Does live doppler analysis to calc the speed of your electric pusher jet, pylon racer, edf. Speaks the speed of the last pass while logging it to a csv file. Couldn't get enough of it! My beat-up funjet was averaging high 130s (Km/h -> 85mph) though my mate's Parkjet was hitting high 140s (over 90mph). People have been testing it against a radar gun and find it within a few mph. In any case it is consistent and gives a steady comparison between you and your mates!

Just couldn't get bored of it!

Wow a lot there! Thanks glydr!

I just wanted to ask if anyone has seen any apps for Nokia? The Ovi Store doesn´t really show up with any suggestion or results

Dude, Android!

All the above are apps I have personally used. I have no desire for an rc diary/ log so haven't found one.

I have "WindAlert" on my droid. It's great for checking wind conditions everywhere around me before packing up all my stuff and then finding out it's gusty as all heck everywhere I wanna fly.

...And then of course you fly anyways cause you put all the time and effort into getting out there....and crash :p

Anyway, WindAlert is pretty decent for checking current and projected wind all around you. Not sure if that was the type of app you were looking for, but give it a shot!

On a side note, I have the iPhone and I use the flashlight app to see in a dark fuse, Spektrum STi for recording telemetry runs, RCPitch_X as a quick test pitch gauge, MAN (model airplane news) to read when I'm board and HeliTools for motor specs, battery specs, pitch set up, etc. And Craigslist to sell all my broken s$!t.

That last thing by airwolf looks rather interesting! That brings RC to a completely different level!

Dude, the first link is the amazing one! That board has all sorts of possibilities beyond telemetry!

Thanks for posting AW.

Thanks guys for all of the great links to apps. Some good stuff here. Will be checking them all out. As I have a droid phone and an Ipad, I can go both ways (that does not sound quite right)...

The last few apps with the board and telemetry stuff looks really interesting. A little too advance for us as we are still trying to not destroy our Super Cub and get our first plan based home made foamy in the air. But something to keep in mind for the future. Makes me think if there would be a way to combine FPV with cell signals to use phone or pad as a monitor. Could possibly really extend the range too. Something to keep an eye on...

Thanks again for all of the links. Keep em coming if you know of others.

I went looking today after reading this thread, there is an iPhone / iPad app called flypad. It outputs a ppm signal through the headphone jack. The free version gives you 1 virtual joy stick and one tilt control (4 axis all up) but no switches and stuff. I tried it out on the sim, and it works fine, albeit hard to control!

The purchased one can do a lot more. I assume it's available on android.

i just started using RC Flight Log by T3chDad on my iPhone. Tracks plane and battery use. Just getting back into RC after 20 years or so and going all electric. Thought this looked interesting so giving it a try. Still needs a few tweaks, but should help analyze battery use\life.
