I've had a SpektrumDX6 Gen 2 for seven years. I purchased it used at a garage sale and have no idea where the garage sales was. Nor can I find out who owned it before me so I can get him to send an email to Spektrum Support to tell them the transmitter was sold to me. So...they will not permit it to be updated. Does anyone have the updates for the transmitter? Perhaps someone has a way I can Spektrum support to allow it to be updated. It has been my go to xmitter for a while but it is getting to a point that I cannot connect some of my current planes. I am open to ideas. I do have a RadioMaster TX16 but I would love to make the DX6 Gen 2 current. Ideas?

Wild thought. If you remove the chip from your radio, can someone else with a Spektrum Dx6 do a download of updates and planes(or just planes) to there computer and transfer it to you?

Contact Spektrum and they can get the process started, it does take a bit of time to get it in your name. The reason they did this as so many Spektrum transmitters were being stolen.

Thanks for your reply. I thought I would post here to see if anyone had any ideas how to overcome this problem. I believe I will contact Spektrum Support to see if they will help me since the transmitter is well past its end of life. I will post the results when I get a response.
Thanks.

Its an idea but I dont thinks the chip is a plug n play option. if someone had downloaded the update from the Spektrum site, i would wager that it would work on my xmitter. We shall see if anyone has any other ideas. Thanks for your input.

I don't see how Horizon/Spektrum could possibly think witholding updates could possibly prevent thefts. That is just plain bad policy.

It is not to prevent theft it is so you can never update it or send it in for repairs.

I never send mine in for repair. Just let me replace/upgrade/update my own parts. This has been what I've been able to do with my other brands of "open" radios

Any Spektrum radio a DX6 and 2 DX`s 9`s I sent in when I got them back they were updated to the latest firmware, replaced a couple of switches plus what they were sent in for in the first place RF deck. Have never had to pay a dime they even paid return postage, that is service.

Did they keep all of the model memory on the transmitter?

Yes in fact the switches they replaced were aftermarket I installed since I broke them they replaced them with Spektrum switches and sent the aftermarket back with the radio.

Cool! How long did it all take? (How long were you without the transmitter)

Turn around from the time I sent it in to getting it back was 7 working days, the postal service can add to the time. I am never without a transmitter as I have three DX6, DX9, and a Radiomaster TX16s plus some odd balls like HiTec and others.
