Spitfire76's Build Log of the FT Super Scout XL

I am really excited to scratch build the new Super Scout XL.

I built the previous version but had to modify it to make the wings removable in order to fit in my car and I think that caused it to crash on its maiden. I have the XL power pack from that build which includes a 2814 1100kv motor, a 40A ESC, 12 in prop and 4 x 17g servo's as well as an Aura 5 lite. I must have the LG some where too.

The motivation to start building this now is that our club has an Everything Electric Event on April 12th and I really think that this would be a great plane to fly at that event. So I have a deadline, I need to have this built and have performed the maiden before April 12.

Thanks guys for all the suggested names but my wife suggested "Clive" and since it is my middle name I'll go with that as he sort of looks like a Clive.

Status so far of the build

Sheets cut - 1,2,3 and 6 (of 8)
Wing supports - 3dprinted instead of using plywood.
Located most part from previous build
  • XL power pack (2814,1100kv motor, 40A Esc, 17g servos(4))
  • 3d printed firewall (have to see if it fits)
  • 3dprinted exhaust stack.
  • Pilot (Clive)
  • Pair of 4.3in Wheels
Should make a start on a wing half later today or tomorrow

This is the start of day 3 of this build and hoping to complete the cutting of all 8 sheets. I see that there is now a second build video.

I checked to see how the landing gear went together as I'll be 3d printing the gear plates instead of using plywood. I assume that the wire needed is 1/8 inch so will need to pop along to my local Ace Hardware store to get some K&S #507 and as it comes in 36inch lengths should be able to bend it in one length rather than 2 that Josh used. This will require making the groove in the gear plate smaller. I am glad I purchased a 1/8 wire bender some years ago as it makes bending that thickness of wire possible.

Day 4
I did not complete cutting out all sheets yesterday as I had hoped but have completed 3d printing all the plywood parts. For foam board I still need to cut out sheets 5 and 7 as well as re-cut one of the turtle neck parts from sheet 4 as my cutter for some reason messed up with that part. The aim today is to build the power pod and the landing gear as I just stocked up on 1/8th wire.

All parts except firewall printed with eSun + PLA on a Bambu Lab's P1P using 0.2mm standard profile. Firewall printed with Bambu Basic PETG with the same profile.
