Hey everyone, I am just about to scratch build an FT Sportster. This will be my first mid/low fixed wing through the fuselage. Unfortunately, crashes happen and previously (on the FT Bushwacker) I could easily repair/rebuild/store the wing and fuselage separately.

Just wondering how feasible it is to detach the wing from the fuselage on the sportster if it needs to be replaced without damaging the fuselage, has anyone tried this?
I am also wondering if it is possible to make the 'through fuselage' wing design detachable without too much design & performance mods. I am not a very experienced scratch builder and certainly not a designer, so any help on these would be much appreciated!

The Spitfire is a low wing with an optional detachable wing. The design works very well and looks like it would be adaptable for use on the Sportster. See the video, but essentially you would glue the wing in place, but only on the bottom. Then make two cuts from the bottom of the fuselage to the front and rear edges of the wing so that the wing would come out with the bottom chunk of the fuselage attached. Then add a couple skewers in front of and behind the wing for rubber bands to hold the wing on.

Good luck!

hmm that might work. I just saw the spitfire build video and its plans, the wing is a lott closer to the bottom edge of the fuselage for the spitfire than the sportster. The sportster wing is more like halfway through the fuselage and I think it will take a lot of strength out the fuselage if I do that unfortunately... but I'll see how it looks while building :)
