Spray on MinWax!

So I've used that (and similar spray on polys) with mixed results. On the one hand, I got a nice smooth finish. On the other hand, it caused a lot of delamination of the paper, especially on smaller pieces. Here's a shot of the underside of wing to illustrate. I'll be following your results as well!

Do you think it is because of the aerosol?

Yep. Here's what I've used in the past. Maybe if you seal the edges really well, like using the ol' Elmer's Glue/water mix.

Lately, I haven't even been using any Minwax at all. When I put it on with a brush, I often get streaks, which accidentally look cool for weathering purposes. But I haven't ever been really successful at putting on an even coat- I'll following this thread closely and see if you have better results.
